ESPNdeportes.com is reporting Reds agree with SP Johnny Cueto (12-7, 3.64 ERA in 2010) on 4-yr, $27 million deal #reds

Reds throwing around a lot of cash this off season to lock up their young guns.

I like it a lot. I'm guessing the breakdown will be something like this:

2011: $3.5 M

2012: $5 M

2013: $8.5

2014: $10 M

The Reds are saying the deal is not yet done...

The lead story on Reds.com is that he agreed to a 4 year deal.

They need to do it in the opposite order. They have a load of back loaded deals.

John Fay just tweeted that Jocketty has confirmed that the deal is not done, but that the two sides are close...

It'll get done. Everybody just wants to be the first to report it.

I like what the Reds are doing this offseason.

With Cueto deal, #Reds will have guaranteed $161 million in salary this offseason -- Bruce ($61m), Votto ($38m), Arroyo ($35m), Cueto ($27m)

Correction on previous Tweet: #Reds have guaranteed $151 million in salaries this offseason. Bruce's deal is for $51 million, not $61 mill.

Is there an incentive clause for careers ended by Karate kicks?

What I don't understand is that the Reds gave more guaranteed money toward Bruce than Votto which confuses me. Shouldn't you give more money to your best player?

Bruce's deal is also three years longer....

I'm glad that the team is taking care of its top priorities and I'm feeling pretty optimistic about next season.

Yes, so long as the Karate kick recipient's last name starts with Carpenter.

Good point.
