Looks like Thelen had his way down low.

I would like to know what Thelan's shooting percentage is this season. It has to be very high. He likes the 8 foot jumpers too so they are not all lay ins.

That Mr. Fredrick is some kind of player. Love that kid and everything he is about. What a pure shooter.

Hinting a rumor that a player is transferring is total irresponsibility.

Great to see Thelen get back on track against Cooper. I would have thought that CCH would run away after starting 8 - 0 but Cooper is a tough team that just wouldn't quit. If they shoot better from the line they would have won the game. Another thing I found interesting was that CCH only hit 3 - 6 free throws. With the inside game they have I would have thought they would be at the line more.

I don't believe that any current varsity players are going anywhere. Nick is a good player and a contributor over the next two years wearing CCH blue and white.

This seems to be the theme of the last couple of games, that is "The Firm" of Thelen, Baker and Connelly are getting mugged under the basket but nothing seems to be called by the stripes. Numerous times last night Cubbie found himself being knocked to the floor but getting no calls.

Brett drives the basket and is indeed in the air when a Cooper player moves his feet to get in front of him. Not going to question the call of charging as it is indeed a judgment call on the part of the stripe but my questions is: The ball clearly was out of the hands of Brett and in fact was hitting the backboard when Brett and the Cooper player collided, the ball went into the basketball but the stripe called the foul on Brett and waved off the basket. Why? The ball was clearly out of the hands of the shooter prior to the foul, so why wasn't the basket good?

I believe in high school that a "charge" nullifies any made basket, no matter the release point, which is different than the college game.

Reidinger clearly had the ball released from his hands, however a made basket is nullified when an offensive charge is called. I don't like it nor do I like a charge call that close to the basket. To easy to slide underneath someone when the offensive player leaves there feet. I don't like to speak directly about an officiating crew, but I will tell you that over the past couple of weeks the calls have been sparse and questionable at times. If the objective is to keep players from standing at the foul line the entire game and "Let them play" then I don't agree that's basketball the way it was designed to be played. I thought at times last night and at the CCH/NCC a football game started. Skills are being replaced by rough play.

I know you are correct in your understanding of the rule however a "charge" is not the same as a "player control" foul. I know you're using them interchangeably. However, there is a key difference. Let's say Brett released the ball and landed and THEN ran over the defender. Assuming the ball was released prior to a)landing and b)the charge the basket would count as it's no longer a PC foul.

 

Lots of people wish that there was a rule about how close to the basket a PC can occur. There isn't so officials have to call it regardless of where the defender is.

 

Lastly, by rule the defender has to have legal guarding position prior to the shooter beginning the shot. So it would be a block if a defender slid into the way after a shooter left his feet.

 

Tough call to make. Not as easy as it looks.

I will say this about last night's crew. I've never seen so many inadvertent whistles, play stoppages to discuss things, overturned calls and to sum it up, complete and utter mass confusion.

Spoke to the father of Nick Fredrick. He's a Colonel and is not transferring anywhere. To other "blue uniform" fans. Stop flattering yourselves.

Don't forget that the ref's were late coming back after half time. That was a hoot.
