Wide Open 9th Region

Featured Replies

Tonights games validates that the 9th Region is as wide open as it has been in years. You could honestly make a case for 5-7 teams. If Scott, SK, Campbell County and Brossart were in the 9th, it could easily be 10-11

Yes I agree. The number 1, 2 and 3 ranked teams all got beat tonight.

I wouldn't say it's wide open, but there's definetly several teams that are capable of winning the 9th.

I still think the region comes down to Holmes, Covcath, Boone, or Dixie.

I agree with your 4, but NewCath and Ryle can also beat any team. It will come down to draws and matchups.

Definetly agree with this.

The one advantage Holmes and Covcath have is they know from the beginning that they don't have to worry about meeting one another until the region finals.

It's as wide open as it's been in a long time. Makes it much more fun.

Yeah, no way NCC can beat Holmes. Wait a minute, scratch that.

Dixie wasn't going to run the table and it still only lost by 2 in OT. I still think they are the team to beat in the 9th. CovCath, Boone and Holmes all could win it but Dixie is the odds on favs.

Priceless...

Because Holmes "speed and athleticism" will be to much for NCC.

This region is very wide open. You still cannot count Conner out of the picture to turn it on come tourny time. They play Campbell tonight and will be a good test to see if they are really getting it together.

Imo this is one of those years where any one of about 8 teams could win the region. From the 33rd Ryle, Conner and Boone Co., from the 34th Dixie, from the 35th Holmes, CCH even Holy Cross, from the 36th NewCath and maybe even Highlands. Anyone of these teams could upset another on a given night. There is no clear cut favorite. Also it's on the big floor @ NKU and there could be some days between games for rest and preparation with the girl's state being played first.

Luckily for us, Holmes and Newcath will meet again in a few weeks.

I still contend that Holmes gave them that first game. 5 point lead with a little less than 2 mins to play and they have several breakdowns that Newcath capitalized on.

Time will tell but I think Holmes is the better team. We'll see.

NCC has always had great success during the regular season against Holmes - at least twice (80, 08 I think) they were the only NKY team to knock off outstanding Holmes squads, but I don't recall NCC ever upsetting Holmes in the tournament. We'll see how it plays out this year.

Rice sitting for 12 minutes in the first half of that game was key. He is their best leaper and would have really helped limit the NewCath shots and maybe easy passes to the post.
