Anything Tool, anything Blind Melon, anything Smashing Pumpkins, anything Radiohead, anything Alice In Chains, Mad Season, Sublime, Oasis, Ryan Adams, Dinosaur Jr., Nirvana, Pearl Jam, you will be 90's rocking for days.

If you want to go in a little more of an "alternative" direction, you could probably pick from:

Albums

Radiohead - OK Computer

Beta Band - The Three EP's

Yo La Tengo - I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One

Neutral Milk Hotel - On Avery Island, In The Aeroplane Over The Sea

Beck - Mellow Gold, Odelay

Ben Folds Five - Self Titled, Whatever & Ever Amen, Naked Baby Photos

Cake - Fashion Nugget, Prolonging The Magic

The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin

Counting Crows - August And Everything After, Recovering The Satellites, This Desert Life

Jimmy Eat World - Clarity

Songs

Collective Soul - Gel, Shine, December

The Folk Implosion - Natural One

The Cranberries - Linger, Dreams, Zombie, How, Salvation

Feeder - High

Third Eye Blind - Losing A Whole Year, London, Burning Man, Graduate,

The Weakerthans - None Of The Above

Longpigs - On and On

Superdrag - Who Sucked Out The Feeling, I'm Expanding My Mind, Do The Vampire

No reason to stop. :D

Neutral Milk Hotel - On Avery Island, In The Aeroplane Over The Sea

One of my favorite albums of all time, without a doubt.

Ryan Adams first solo effort was Heartbreaker, which was released in 2000. Whiskeytown would be in the appropriate time frame though I'm not for sure if I'd consider them rock.

Great suggestions all around though.

Personally I would consider Alternative to be a sub-genre of rock, so I see no reason to not include it. Excellent suggestions my friend and as always I will have to look some of these up. Your musical taste/range never fails to impress me.

I'm with ya' there. I can still tell you when and where I heard it for the first time. I had gone to Phil's Records off of Buttermilk Pike in Crescent Springs to pick up Massive Attack's new album "Mezzanine" (it was within a few days of it being released, so I could probably give you a fairly accurate date if needs be). I was holding a copy of Ben Harper's "The Will To Live" and a used copy of Dylan's "Highway 61 Revisited", and one of the workers turned on "Aeroplane". It got me then and there. I asked what the music they were playing was, and got a very enthusiastic (and somewhat High Fidelity-esque) smile and nod from the guy at the desk as he told me "It's Neutral Milk Hotel. It's unreal." I bought a copy then and there and had to buy "The Will To Live" at a later date.

Many thanks. Your taste is none too shabby either. Hopefully one of these days I'll get to run into you at a show in Lexington or Lousiville and I can actually put a face to the name.

I've held off on saying anything about them since they are in the running for my favorite band of all time and I wanted to come up with a few particular tracks as recommendations, a task proving all too difficult (my first go basically listed all but two of the tracks from their album "Emergency and I"). Here's a try at some songs by the great (and recently reunited), The Dismemberment Plan:

Gyroscope

Girl O'Clock

Do The Standing Still

Academy Award

The Ice of Boston

Thanks for the tip. So seemed like Heartbreaker came out in the late 90's but I guess you are right. None the less he kept with that nineties sound after going solo and thats all that matters because this decade sure has produced some of the worst all around music compared to decades prior. Aside from a handful of bands it just keeps getting worst.
