OK we are half way home. Most teams have 10 to 15 games under their belt. Who are the best teams in each age division?

 

6th grade I would say:

1. Twenhofel, Racke is to big and strong for most teams to stop. He does it inside and outside. With the two little guards with him they will be tough to beat.

 

2. Grey, lots of size with Ross and Angel. Angel has picked up his second technical of the season. One more and he is out for the season. Would be a huge loss for them. They lack in guard play, with only one true gruard.

 

3. Blessed Sacerment, Maybe the best starting five lead by Vonhandorf. Loss to Twenhofel at Twenhofel by 4 I believe. Dont play Grey till last week of the season.

 

These three are heads above the other teams. Okerman did beat Twenhofel but Twenhofel was up big and put it some subs and it snowballed down hill for them. Woodland is a one man show with Ohmer but will beat teams when he is on. Connor and Summit View both getting better with every game, a sign of good coaching.

 

7th grade, I haven't seen them yet. But I hear Beechwood is the team to beat?

Still too early to tell on the 7th grade level because I have not seen a lot of teams. From what I have seen to date, Blessed Sacrament is pretty strong with Will Heppler leading the way and Gray also has a nice team led by Thad Moss. These are the only two blemishes on Highlands slate to date. Potential matchups with both Twenhofel and Beechwood next week in the Dayton Tournament. Turkeyfoot won it all last year, but I have not heard how they are doing this year.

I know Turkeyfoot lost at least three players off that team. And Beechwood beat the Heppler lead BS team pretty good. I think Highland has the size to play with Beechwood.

I am partial to the NKY teams but I never see any posts about teams downstate. A few years ago there were always good posts about teams from Somerset, Scott Co, Lexington area, etc. If any of these teams in NKY are solid I would suggest they get in the State Tournament that KBA puts on every year. They run em for 7th and 8th grade and they are a good experience for the kids to go down and play teams from around the state. If your Highlands though be careful, they will likely give you Scott Co and another strong team from Lexington in the first couple rounds .

7th and 8th grade are very good. 6th grade is struggling.

Holmes 8th grade beat Ockerman by 2 in the closing seconds. This is the Ockeman team that is without Stanley, probably the best player in NKY. Great game, OMS had a 3 rim out at the buzzer. OMS 7th grade won easily, not sure by how many.

And they said no after the 7th grade team was already checked in at the Embassy Suites in Lexington. There was no snow in Lexington, but was snow in NKY. The team actually went to the tourament and watched games but were not allowed to play. Major lack of communication. The 7th grade league tourney was not the same weekend.

Don't forget about girls MS basketball. Conner and Gray 7th grade girls are both undefeated, after each beating such teams as Twenhofel, Highlands and Walton. Woodland only team to give them any trouble - Woodland 7th grade girls are 8 - 2. IMH girls also undefeated at last check. Will be fun to see how the BC area girls do against each other in January.

RA Jones 8th grade girls have been fairly dominant in their league games. Most of their wins have been by double digits. I think they are 8-1 with their only loss to Twenhofel (last years 7th grade champs I believe) by a few points.
