PARK HILLS, Ky. - The rebuilding project Covington Catholic boys’ basketball coach Mike Listerman seemed to be facing this season is well ahead of schedule.

The Colonels whipped Campbell County, 82-48, on Wednesday to post their fifth straight win and run their record to 6-1.

 

That’s an impressive start when you consider most of the players on the CovCath roster had little or no previous varsity experience coming into this season.

 

“I knew they had the potential. I just didn’t know when it would start to click,” Listerman said of his team. “Obviously, it’s clicked pretty good here in December. We’re tickled to be where we are right now.”

 

The Colonels played so well together in Wednesday’s home game that they shot 62.5 percent (35 of 56) from the field and had a season-high 29 assist

Of last night's starting 5 all but Baker has extensive varsity experience.

Great game by the Colonels. They came out in the 1st quarter and took it to the Camels. Camels fought back to cut the lead in the 3rd but the Colonels were just too much.

 

Also, hats off to the Crazies, they kept the triplets entertained the entire game.

First time I watched the Colonel's play and all I can say is WOW!.

They played inside, outside, offense and defense.

Take away the first five minutes of the 3rd and CovCath may have won by 50.

The Baker kid may be the most underrated player in NKY.

Pretty tough going inside on this crew.

Was Jim Schue in the house?

Camels came out in ta 2-3 zone and the Colonels marched out to a 21-7 lead, pretty much dooming the Camel's chances from the git-go.

The zone seemed to have made the Camels a bit lethargic on defense when they switched it up to man-man for the duration of the half.

In the third period, the Camels played with resolve, the way we have seen them play defensively in previous games, causing the Colonels problems.

Thelan and Baker must have thought that Christmas came early, as they were pretty much uncontested down low all night, and the guards did a great job getting them the ball - contributing to the 62% shooting night from the field.

I enjoyed doing the broadcast with Mark Werhy, sitting in for Jason Elfers.
