Game played in Hawaii as part of the Iolani Classic.

 

This was a 2nd round game, Mt. Vernon came in ranked #14 in the country in the USA Today Super 25 poll.

 

Mt. Vernon tried pulling away several times, including a 41-28 lead in the 3rd quarter, but only led 43-39 going into final frame. It was a one possession game for much of the 4th quarter, they hit their free throws down the stretch to pad the final score.

 

Royals will play Lexington Catholic on Monday in a consolation game. It will start around 10pm Maysville time. Mason County/Catholic is tied to Wheeler, GA/Iolani game. The winners/losers play each other on Tuesday.

Just makes me so proud how these kids played, should be quite a matchup on Monday night.

How underrated is Jordan Gilbert at the point in the state,He flat out held his own against Jabri Hinez the West Virginia signee for Mt.Vernon and held him to 33% from field and took care of the ball against the long and atheletic Vernon press!

I was extremely impressed with Gilbert in the second half of the Princeton game as well.

 

His speed and quickness is very underrated. He was getting to the rack at will against Princeton and a one man press breaking machine.

 

Hard to believe he's only receiving small D2 and D3 interest. IF he were in the 6'1-6'2 range, his recruitment would go up a ton.

Good showing from Mason Co. I know alot of teams have been playing out of state teams and been getting hammered. Good effort Royals.

Great effort by the Royals, very impressive. I love the play by Gilbert, he makes the Royals a very dangerous team.Talked to him this summer, very nice young man. Great experience for the team. Best of luck the rest of the tourney.
