Cowards on WCPO.com

I am sure many of you have heard of the tradgedy in Warsaw/Vevay yesterday involving the young men on the river. Well the story is posted on many media outlets inclduding WCPO.com. Some have taken the liberty of making light of this situation even though it is possible a life may have been lost. If you get a chance read the article and the comments.

We all use our alias on here but for the most part its good clean fun, but when people makes the kinds of comments that are being made on wcpo.com it makes me sad for humanity.

God Bless the Hearn Family and those helping on the search.

Is this the guy who went boating yesterday, and the boat capsized?

I have gone through those websites & reported quite a few people for rude comments. That's really all you can do. Just click "Report Abuse" and most of the time (from my experiences), the comments will get removed.

Perhaps I'm not looking in the right place, but the page that had the story on it didn't have any comments listed. Perhaps they've been removed?

Yes it was the boat that capsized and yes after a few phone calls the comments were removed. I just cannot understand why people can be that cruel .

While I'm not sure why anyone would make cruel comments about an event like this, one must ask the question, why in the world was he out on the river in this weather?

There were three of them and they were avid duckhunters two swam to shore. I pray for this young man and his family and yes this is a very cruel world we all live in. JD

Yep, this is the weather to look for when you go hunting for waterfowl. It's a tragedy, no doubt, but what's even worse is that it was more than likely preventable. I've never gone out on the Ohio river in a jon boat without having my life jacket on the whole time. It's a real shame.

I really don't like the idea of al the media outlets now let people post their comments on issues. A lot of people are civil, even the ones I don't agree with, but more than just a few get way out of line and down right sick! You can even see these comments on reports of missing persons or murders. They need to start requiring an email address as well as a really asters and once your identity is verified then you can post.

I also dislike how tv news stations now read viewers comments over the air from the stations facebook pages ect, if I want to read comments I'll do it myself, I find it ad lack of real journalism.

It's all about media outlets trying to appear current and cutting edge. They're feeding on the Internet culture, which decrees that everything must be interactive, and everyone must be heard. Those "new media" tools are great, in the proper context; but not when used in inappropriate situations (i.e. this story), simply for the sake of market share.

I also agree about the comments on TV news reports. I don't care in the least, what Joe Six-pack, in Topeka, thinks about extending the Bush tax cuts. I don't need to hear what Polly Propylene has to say about the environment. If you're not an expert, or somehow important to the story, I really don't need your opinion. I already have a perfectly serviceable one, to which I'm quite happily attached.

This is nothing new, and I share your disgust. Daily I read stories of tragedy in the C-J and the comments that follow are as despicable as anything I've ever read anywhere. It's a world full of ugly-souled people out there, lacking in compassion, empathy or even one iota of understanding.
