So who was the breakdancer in the pics?

To say the least! Quite a few of the long time CovCath fans who sit in the parents section, said it was one of the best nights they had seen the Crazies work at a game in years! Outstanding job seniors, keep up the great work!

Thelen, Connlley, Baker and Maschinot all had big nights for CovCath as all four scored in double figures.

CovCath Frosh beat Ryle by a score of 47-38 with Radcliff who didn't score a point last night at Scott netting 17 and Schult getting 14.

CovCath JV beat Ryle by a score of 48-31 with Murphy leading the way with 22 followed by Arnzen netting 11

CovCath next plays Cincinnati St. Xavier at The Bank of Kentucky Center on the campus of Northern Kentucky University on Sunday December 12 in the Bluegrass Buckeye Challenge. Tip off is scheduled for 4:30pm

TOG, I will be doing some commentary for this game and it will be broadcast live in video on nkysports.com. Stop up and say hello!

Sounds like the 9th region is wide open this year.

Does anybody have stats for the game? I was impresssed the other night when Ryle beat Cooper with # 23 for Ryle. I would take 5 of his type players anyday and beat most teams in the region.

PARK HILLS, Ky. - In the first half of Covington Catholic’s 81-72 win against Ryle Friday night in Park Hills, Colonels head coach Mike Listerman saw how good his team could be. In the second half, he saw how far away his team is from being that good for an entire game.

After a dominating first half in which the Colonels built a 37-17 halftime advantage, CovCath surrendered 55 second-half points to the Raiders, seeing a lead that got to as many as 25 points dwindle down to six points in the final minute.

“The first half we probably played as well as we possibly could play,” said Listerman. “As a coach you know you’re not going to continue that same pace. By the same token, even if some of the other aspects of your game are off, you should always be able to play good defense. We certainly didn’t do that in the second half.”

In the first half Ryle made just six of 26 shots from the floor (23.1-percent) while CovCath’s inside tandem of 6-foot-7ers Drew Baker and Jake Thelen dominated inside.

Baker was particularly dangerous early on, scoring 11 points in first quarter, finishing the game 7-for-7 from the floor and 1-for-1 from the foul line for 15 points.

“It was my first game in ten days, I was ready to go,” said Baker, who sat out CovCath’s 57-44 loss at Lexington Catholic last Friday after missing his first day of school in 12 years with a 24-hour virus.

A foul line jumper by Baker caused Ryle to call a time out with CovCath ahead, 17-6. After the timeout, however, Thelen capped off an 8-0 run with a pair of buckets to put the Colonels ahead, 23-6 before Todd Vollet ended the run with a 3-pointer late in the first quarter.

“They figured out they needed to guard both of us, and once they guarded both of us, I took over,” Thelen said.

Thelen added five more in the second quarter when CovCath’s lead ballooned to 20, finishing with game highs of 25 points and 12 rebounds. Six-foot-five senior forward Alex Connelly added 14 points while senior guard Connor Maschinot added 13.

The Colonels finished the game shooting 45.7 percent (32 of 70) from the field and held a 49-39 rebounding edge.

“We were all fired up. We were ready to go,” Thelen said of the Colonels first-half performance. “We played really unselfish basketball. We only had one turnover in the first half. We were hitting on all cylinders. We were destroying them.”

CovCath expanded its lead to as many as 25 points when Alex Connelly’s jumper put the Colonels ahead, 59-36, midway through the third quarter, but by then the Raiders offense had started to roll.

“Their two guards scored 34 points of their 55 in the second half,” Listerman said. “We just never took ownership of the ball and really we let them do whatever they wanted to do.”

Senior guard Zack Perkins scored 14 of his 16 points in the game during the third quarter and junior guard Tate Mullins made a jumper and a 3-pointer to start a 10-3 run that pulled Ryle to within 16, 62-46, by the end of the quarter.

Mullins led the Raiders with 18 points, followed by 17 from 6-foot-7 senior center Bobby Stauffer, Perkins’s 16, and 11 from senior forward Todd Vollet.

The Raiders made 18 of 35 shots from the field (51.4 percent) in the second half to finish 24-of-61 shooting (39.3 percent) for the game. The Raiders made 19 of 22 (86.4 percent) from the foul line.

The Colonels made just 15 of 27 free throws in the game, allowing the Raiders to continue to inch closer in the fourth quarter. Dylan James made a basket with more than six minutes remaining to cut the lead to 12, 64-52, before CovCath answered with a run that took its lead back up to 17 at 71-54.

Ryle surged again behind nine fourth-quarter points from Mullins and pulled to within six points, 75-69, on Bobby Stauffer’s bucket with 56.1 seconds remaining.

Stauffer, who was fouled on the play, missed a free throw, however, and Thelen found junior guard Connor Cleves for a basket that enabled the Colonels to start pulling away.

“It was good for us to have that challenge,” Listerman said of Ryle’s comeback. “Every club has to learn how to protect the lead, take care of the lead and to finish a game. In the end we did that.”

Cov Cath FT shooting looks pretty weak.

So who was the breakdancer in the pics?

His name is Carlton Totten. He went to CCH his freshman year, but left to go to the School for Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA) in Cincinnati. Hw would've been a Senior at CovCath this year. He was on MTV a few months ago.

C-Tott breaks it down from time to time. Not surprised he showed off his skillz at the game.

CovCath's fans are the best. Fun to watch and great entertainment. Keep up the good work. Good luck to Cov vs. St. X tomorrow.
