My pre-season Super Bowl champ pick looks better every week.

I wondered how long it would be until people started saying the Pats were the NFL's top team. I can't believe it took this long.

 

I've seen a few discussions among the analysts about the best team and it seems they were always talking about the Jets, Steelers and Ravens. The Pats were never mentioned when I watched. Some of them even talked up Baltimore, without mentioning New England, after the Pats beat them.

 

It's amazing that the Patriots could even come remotely close to flying under the radar. But, to some extent, they've done it this season.

 

Considering the Pats...they have Brady leading somewhat of a no-name offense as the top scoring team in the league and a young defense that is (or was) dead last in the league. If Brady can win his 4th ring with that formula, it is going to be really hard to top his claim as the best QB in league history, IMO.

The reason you've seen multiple discussions on it is because who looks like the best team has changed almost weekly. The Pats have been the only team that has played real well two weeks in a row, so they're the ones getting all the love right now. That said, I wouldn't be shocked to see them lose at Chicago this weekend.

It makes sense to me. Historically, teams with as bad of a defense as the Pats - and it has been bad most of the season, despite their record - generally do not fair well on down the line. They are extremely flawed like most teams. The past two weeks are just ingrained in everyone's mind.

It doesn't make sense to me. Not when you consider the coach and the QB. In Week 4 the Pats drilled Miami on the road (41-14) in a big divisional game at the time, had a bye the next week, then beat Baltimore (everyone's favorite, along with Pitt, at the time), and then won @ San Diego the following week. They should have got some mention at that point.

 

Then in Week 10 they dismantled Pittsburgh @ Heinz Field and followed that with a solid win against Indy.

 

It shouldn't take a 45-3 win against the Jets to get that attention, IMO.

 

They're not unbeatable. As you noted, they have some flaws. Every team does. The margin between the top teams is generally razor thin, which is a big reason why the head coach and the QB are so important. And, that is where New England has the advantage over every other team in the league.

They might be the best team right now, but that doesn't mean they will be the best team in February.

I made a $50 bet two weeks ago with my roommate....I got the Patriots, he got the other 31 (technically only 11) teams. I also got 10-1 odds...I'm liking my chances at the moment.

He's made some doosies this season with me....$50 TO & Chad wouldn't combine to get 1,800 yards receiving (barring a total meltdown, that's a win for me.) $50 that the Giants would win the NFC regular season (another almost lock solid win for me), and $50 that Jahvid Best would not get 1,500 all purpose yards (ok, so I screwed up on that one :lol:)...

That's the thing about the NFL. There are quite a few teams capable of winning a title if they play their best and/or catch the right break at the right time.

 

Heck, the NFC may very well have a team that I think is capable of winning the Super Bowl miss the playoffs altogether. As of right now, the Giants and Packers are tied for the last playoff spot. It wouldn't surprise me if either of those teams won the whole thing. Contrast that to basketball where we know that the champion will be one of 4 or 5 teams (and that may be generous) before the season even starts.

They've beaten the Steelers, beaten the Ravens, beaten the Jets, beaten the Chargers, beaten the Colts, etc.

 

Next week they put the drunk Cutler and his Bears in their place, and then it's a preview of the Super Bowl IMO with the Pats vs. the Pack.

 

Brady all but sealed the MVP race tonight...28 TDs 4 INTs on the year...Dude is the best QB in the game.

No one expects to Chicago to win, I even expect the Bears to lose. If the Falcons and/or Saints get homefield, I would put them in the Superbowl over the Packers.

 

Yes, right now the Patriots are the best in the NFL. But it was pointed out the Eagles were this unstoppable force, darlings of the NFL, great offense and then they paid a visit to Chicago.
