In the original story for Batman 3, Two-Face is on the loose and Batman turns to the Joker, who is in prison, for help.

 

But since Ledger's death they scrapped that story and have went in a different direction, it's unclear what the exact storyline is but someone believes tihs is it.

 

There is a rumor going around that "The Dark Knight Rises" will be based on "Prey," a storyline that appeared in "Legends of The Dark Knight" comic book issues #11-15. If you look at the story, all the previous rumors fall nicely into place.

 

"Prey" features prominent Gotham psychiatrist Dr. Hugo Strange, who uses his influence on the mayor to form a task force to capture the vigilante Batman, the object of Strange's obsession. Heading this task force is the newly promoted Commissioner Gordon, who must weigh his responsibilities to Gotham against his loyalties to Batman. Meanwhile, Dr. Strange deduces Batman's true identity and plays mind games with him, finally attempting to kill the Dark Knight in order to become him.

 

At the end of "The Dark Knight," Lt. Gordon (Gary Oldman) becomes Police Commissioner, while Batman is considered a criminal. This sets up "Prey" perfectly. In addition, it was previously rumored that Tom Hardy will be playing Hugo Strange. That also fits. And it was said (and hinted in "The Dark Knight") that Catwoman will show up. That fits as well, since Catwoman is part of "Prey."

 

Finally, Teresa Palmer (The Sorcerer's Apprentice) has been campaigning to play Talia al Ghul, the daughter of Ra's al Ghul, a character from "Batman Begins." Since this is the last installment (according to Christian Bale), having Talia al Ghul would tie up the trilogy nicely.

I am glad that they decided to scrap the Joker from this movie. I don't think it would have been a good idea at all after the death of Heath Ledger. However, I would still like to see Two-Face play a role.

No way its the last installment, leaving too much money on the table....

I really wish they would of put The Riddler in.

Nolan stated that it would be his last. You never know though. He is having a pretty nice role with the reboot of the Superman franchise (he will be producing it and being on the creative end)

I think that the dark knight did so well was because of the characters in it. People knew who the Joker and Two-Face are. That is the reason they made the Batman, Spiderman, Iron Man, Green Lantern......people know who they are. The same is for the bad guys which IMO are the most important part in all the super hero stories.

 

But Nolan had done a terrific job so far so I will let him be making all the decisions!!

Nolan has placed emphasis on making the films close to reality, unlike the glorified cartoons known as Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. That emphasis, coupled with outstanding characters and performances (namely Oldman, Freeman & Ledger), have made these two most recent films hugely successful.

And one other thing...a lot of people were floating ideas for who a potential actor would be for "The Riddler" (Johnny Depp, Adrien Brody, Joseph Gordon-Levitt). I thought it would be interesting to give Jim Carrey another try. I thought he was one of the lone highlights of Batman Forever. He could perhaps become a more twisted version in a new film.

I know they won't but if they did bring the Riddler into play, I personally would LOVE to see Michael C Hall from Dexter play him.

Yes, reality which is what I felt lacked in movies like Spider-Man, and when I say reality I mean not comic book action/feel, which is what I felt Spider-Man had. You look back at the movies and they seem cheesy. I don't think anyone will be able to look at Nolan's Batman movies and say they are cheesy.

 

Both the recent Batman movies have been successful but The Dark Knight had much better reaction. In part I beleive because people knew who the Joker was and wanted to see this magnificent character come to life portrayed by a phenomenal actor.

 

 

My personal favorite part of the old batmans was when George Clooney confronts Mr. Freeze with " Hi Freeze, I'm Batman." Classic.
