Post what? :lol: Just because they voted on it doesn't mean it was right. It's a popularity contest. When you don't have range to get to any balls deep in the hole it makes it a lot easier to keep your amount of errors down.

November 10, 201015 yr Who do you give it to? Izturis...maybe? His range factor is a little better but his zone rating is worse. He had more errors and turned less DP's. I'm not saying Jeter had a fantastic year, although 6 errors is impressive, regardless of range factor. I'm saying there weren't very many SS's with great defensive years, in the AL. Jason Bartlett is next in fielding percentage and his range factor is worse than Jeter's. So, who is it?

Making only six errors is nice and I don't mean to disparage Jeter because he's been a great player. But you and I both know he can't get to a lot of the balls that he used to make look routine. Because of that, he doesn't have as many chances for errors as he used to. I will agree, however, that it would be hard to measure this award with any other statistic, thus making a case for Jeter to win.
November 10, 201015 yr The guy is 36, and thats a key, if they want to use the range guide thats fine, but how can anyone not see only 6 errors playing SS and making the second round of the playoffs. I know baseball and I watch almost every game that the Yanks play on TV, they are on a lot. And I've seen DJ make some plays that was not bad. Again I only go by the final results.

I think they'd have a tougher time trying to explain how a guy with the 4th best fielding percentage, and 5 more errors than anyone above him, won the Gold Glove. Maybe his range factor is good enough that he has substantially more chances than the other guys, but his zone rating isn't as good. Tough call.

Andrus' range factor was well above Jeter's ... well above it. I think the Rangers can live with a few more errors, given that he's making 100 or so more plays than Jeter over the course of the season.

November 10, 201015 yr Andrus is making 100 or so more plays on ground balls than Jeter over the course of the season, which means that Andrus is making plays on a lot of balls that are probably getting by Jeter for singles.
November 10, 201015 yr That's just so subjective. Does the fact that Jeter turned more DP's mean that Andrus isn't as good at the pivot? Could just mean his pitchers didn't give him as many opportunities. Maybe since Jeter's pitching wasn't as good as Andrus' the balls were hit harder through the hole. (I don't think this, playing devil's advocate) I'm assuming this subjectivity is the reason they simply rely on the numbers. Andrus' zone rating is worse than Jeter's, which is more important, IMO.
November 10, 201015 yr \ I think somewhere there is a happy medium. Not saying everyone has to spend the same amount; as that is neither fair nor practical. I'm old enough to remember when Kansas City was pretty much the New York Yankees' farm team. I do agree there is a happy medium. I would just like to see the teams that don't spend the money that the Yanks and Sox are forced to give them take as much heat. It is a competition and if you can do something that is totally within the rules to help you win, I don't have a problem with it. I think the Yankees make enough big money mistakes that it all shakes out (almost). Back to Jeter, I wont get to upset out the GG, since I can't find anyone that was head and shoulders better.
