I haven't said anything at all about taxes. We are talking about spending cuts and it seems that you like most republicans when presented with the facts is that you are unwilling to say that the popular budet programs are the ones that are going to have to be cut. Especially when as westsider mentions that these same politicians want to reduce revenues even further by extending the Bush tax cuts. In other words they want to continue to be cut tax and spend conservatives that spoiled the budget surplus we had anyway.

If you mention the budget deficit you most certainly are talking about taxes, where do think the Govt gets the money to squander? And yes, cut the 'popular" programs. As far as your dislike for tax cuts, I won't stop you from voluntarily sending more of your income to the federal government.

We can be called clueless by the OP and supported by several other posters but the unchangeable facts are --your side was ROUTED in historic fashion this week. I see no reason to let the tax cuts expire. In the current economic conditions, taking more money from the consumers isn't going to help the issue any IMO.

 

There are much better ways to cut the deficit than to raise taxes IMO.

If the deficit really is the Republicans' newfound top concern, and the evidence is that the Bush tax cuts contribute to the deficit, then why are so many Republicans bent on extending them?
