Agreed, many people work themselves from poor to lower-middle and middle class. However, many do not. If you take away the "benefits" of being poor, then those who are willing to work to improve themselves will do so all the same...and those who refuse to work for their own improvement are left to their own devices.

 

And that my friend, is why survival of the fittest is the perfect strategy to deal with this issue. Those that can't fend for themselves, too bad, you lose.

I don't understand this. Many of the poor who pay no taxes are NOT on welfare, NOT on any social aid. Everyone wants to concentrate on the dregs as their way of proving that the poor are unmotivated, and disinclined to better themselves. There are many that began as poor, and are now lower middle class, maybe even solidly middle class.

On more than one occasion I have had candidates turn down job offers due to the fact that their unemployment had been extended. I had one person tell me in an interview that said person could be very picky when accepting a position due to the fact that said person had a lot of time left on unemployment benefits. Yes these are individual instances, but I do see a lack of motivation created by the safety net of entitlement.

Not sure where I said that no one pays any taxes at all. My point was that the 4 poorest were not contributing at the bar. So I take the parable as equating that to income tax. Any way you slice and dice it, in this scenario the 4 poorest do not contibute to the bar tab regardless of what the economic situation is. I find it to be an intersting scenario.

I think what it proves is that you don't like what it says. You can't get past the fact that 4 poorest drink for free, no matter what. i will equate that to the individuals that have sat in my office and turned down pretty decent jobs due to the fact they had unemployment, evidently for a long time. But they don't drink for free. That is the point. I bet they even paid a cover charge to get in. Kinda like Vegas. You don't really drink for free when you are there either.

The American economy is designed by the rich, for the rich. Our government, media, culture and even religion are the way they are because they support an economy which helps the rich remain rich.

 

You amaze me. First off, the government should be designed by the financially successful...why wouldn't you want it to be? There is a reason why we have the WORLDS LARGEST ECONOMY!!! Be happy about rather than always complaining.

 

Quit saying it is designed for the rich, you say that most rich people get their money from inheritance. There is an extremely small percentage of people that are able to sustain financial independence based on inheritance so you cannot say inheritance is how the rich get rich. They get rich because they get educated. The get rich because they work for it. They get rich because they make sacrifices. You are talking about the american dream fading...the only people that make a bigger impact on that philosophy is the people that consistently bash the successful and want to penalize them for being so.

Your progressive author forgot that the working class that allowed the rich to to get rich have a job BECAUSE of the rich. It works both ways. Talk about propaganda.

 

It is easy to say that without the working class the rich would not be rich. You have to think on a higher level and get the full depth of reality. Something I fear that has been lacking.
