Well they didn't play a Cincinnati power and still didn't go undefeated, it would be hard to rank this years team up with some of the really good Highlands teams. So what I am getting to is they are defiantely not one of the worse Highlands teams, but they are not one of the best either. They are somewhere inbetween, I would say above average/mediocre. It is hard to get a good indicator in the playoffs because 5a is so weak.

I've said it all year though...if there's any Highlands team that doesn't win the state title, it's going to be this one. I'd be very surprised if they didn't win 3 straight after this year.

No one needs to comment on whether they are mediocre. Their 9-1 record does the talking. If they finish X - 2, maybe some can talk.

Losing 1 game in the regular season to a 6A school , does not mean they won't win state . So , your saying if they win state it's because Highlands was in a weak 5A class ? How about if they win state , it's because they are better than the rest of 5A ? This team only has to be good enough to win the state title , and as long as Cincinnati isn't in Kentucky , we don't have to worry about those teams from Ohio ! The 2010 trophy will look just as good as the 2009 trophy in the case , the Birds just have to get it done. :thumb:

People see the last couple of games as some hope. To say that they are a mediocre team for Highlands ....thats best said at the end of the season. Maybe that Ryle is that good. It seems no one wants to give people their credit or make excuses. If Ryle gets a chance at Trinity then we can judge past teams. The Bluebirds are a very good team by any means. There is not a 5A team that can beat them. I thought Bowling Green would be there. I am not so sure now.

I think Hoopology is dead on when he says we need to wait until the end of the season before making any judgments. Keep in mind, the top-two teams in each class still have FIVE more games to play... for those two teams the full season is only 2/3's done... there's a lot of football left to be played!

I don't know, last year you had your senior starting QB go out fifth game of the season and start a sophmore that showed leadership beyond his years. And then you had your DI running back miss 5 games last year due to a broken thumb which he played on and off with since the Cov. Cath. game. You had an All State Linebacker play with a reconstructed knee his senior year and you had a DI Olineman with knee issues since he was a sophmore. You still had the occasional concussion with Rosenhagen, ankle issues with Fennell and Schlosser.

These were just the seniors.

 

The point is you have injuries every year and you have to play thru them.

^Henry is right. In fact, Highlands seems to be bothered by injuries a lot of years (back in 2008 HHS lost its best senior, Josh Conner, with a broken leg for most of the season, and then lost stud junior LB/TE Brandon Roller early in the playoffs.

 

The 2007 HHS team seemed to stay pretty healthy, as I recall.

 

The Birds didn't need Connor when they had Crawford and Head. In fact, they were less effective when he came back still injured. You simply cannot compare injuries in previous seasons b/c if you lose players at key positions with no equivalent fillers, you're in trouble.

We are talking about the standards that have been set the past, whether we are talking about the last 15 to 20years the last 5 years, the last 50 years, no one can make an arguement that this ranks as one of the best teams and no one can make an arguement that this is one of the worst teams. They are somewhere inbetween. If they don't win state then i would say they might lie below the mediocre range or right at it, if they win state then i would say they are above the medicore range. A deep run into the playoffs barely means anything anymore. It's win state or don't win state.

This team is as good as any and is by far the best in NKY. They have destroyed teams all season and the defense has held just as good as in years past. Look at the numbers. The offense is certainly not a copy of last year, but it's not every year or every 10 to 20 years that an AC comes along. Time to back off the Birds with "mediocre" threads that IMO are simply meant to inflame.

You're reading in to my post too much. Never once have I said this, nor would I say this.

 

HHS senior class this year would rank as one of the best in program history at a lot of other schools.

 

My comment to this being the year HHS doesn't win it, if ever a year, has to do with their lack of depth. Not the talent.

I get what guru is saying, all I can say in response is in this case I'm pretty comfortable with mediocrity.
