Rand Paul is an idiot. That is all I have to say about that. I am an independent voter, and this guy is way to off the wall for me.

 

What has Paul done or said to lead you to believe him to be an idiot?

It speaks volumes about the status of the Dems in KY that Rand Paul will be elected, probably very easily.

The polling company I have found to be the most accurate is surveyusa. Their last poll in the Conway / Paul race was at the end of September with Paul leading 49%-47%. That is obviously old data as a lot has happened in the past month. However, I don't believe Paul has gained any ground since then. If this race is decided by more than 5% one way or the other, I will be surprised. I still think Paul wins in a squeaker but a Conway win will not surprise me at all. I think a lot of moderate voters are upset with Washington but are going to have a hard time actually pulling that lever for Paul. He is just too far off base for many moderates to be able to actually cast a vote for him on election day.

One other comment - Trey Grayson would have won this election much more easily than Paul, if Paul pulls out the win.

While I don't condone what this guy did, I think people are really stretching their descriptions of his actions. He did not stomp on the lady. He pushed her down twice with his foot and told her to stay down. He did not push/stomp on her head. It was her shoulder. One has to wonder what the lady did to merit such behavior. Was that her wig that seem to come off her head? Was she holding some type of pro Paul sign, perhaps to get close to Paul? The video (perhaps conveniently) doesn't show what was going on prior to the lady moving forward towards Paul. I couldn't tell if she was being pushed forward or was moving forward on her own. I seriously doubt she was just standing back in the Paul crowd as Paul showed up in his vehicle, holding her sign. I mean seriously folks, again I don't condone what the guy did, but people that go looking for trouble often find it. And it's their fault when they do find it, in my opinion. I can't understand people that like to get into the face and protest against people they aren't supporting or disapprove of. More disgusting behavior from people on both sides of this race. Think Fancy Farm. And I don't think anyone can discount the possibility that the lady, a member of Moveon, wasn't trying to manufacture the exact result that occurred. The left is really working hard to convince the public that every one from Ky in the Tea Party is a bunch of hillbilly, red neck, racists, which I find really offensive as a Kentuckian. We heard all of that before from the left when Ky didn't vote for Obama. I'm so disgusted with the shady dealings and actions of Moveon, I'm about to the point that if they are opposed to a candidate, that's whom I'm voting for.

 

The good news for Paul is that if this was a stunt to make Paul supporters look bad (and since a Moveon member was involved I'm inclined to believe it was), they must be very, very worried about the results of the election.

Sorry, I can't jump on the "I don't like what he did but really, it was much ado about nothing" bandwagon.

I'm trying to imagine a situation in which an adult male pushing a (small) woman to the ground and using his foot on her shoulder is warranted. If she were threatening Paul or someone, perhaps. Simply using her freedom of speech? No.

 

IMO, blaming this woman for the guy's actions is too easy. He is responsible for how he reacted to the situation.

Agreed, but you think she could not bear any responsibility under any circumstances? We'll respectfully disagree. If a woman supporter of that wacko preacher that protests at military funerals showed up at the funeral of your son and got in the face of your husband going into the funeral service and he pushed her to the ground while the police were summoned, your husband might be wrong, but could you honestly look me in the face and say the woman beared no responsibility?

For me it really boils down to this: Two people were so riled up and emotional over a political campaign that their reaction to an opposing opinion was violence. I think that should be appalling to everyone. While there have been several instances of this type of thing, it makes it more visceral when it happens in your state over an election you’ve been following.

 

At the end of the day, the easiest way to not make the state look like it’s full of uncivilized, violent people is to not react with violence. That really couldn’t be a lower threshold.

LN ... you are my BGP buddy and I am almost always on the same page with you ... but the actions by the guy who put his foot on the lady are indefensible. It wasn't overly violent by any stretch but it is indefensible.

I think it speaks volumes about the status of both the Republicans AND the Democrats. Paul should NEVER have defeated Trey Grayson. And now he looks as if he could beat Conway. For the first time in a long time I'm going to be grateful that McConnell is in Washington. It has nothing to do with his politics. I think he's the only one who can tame the beast.
