Highlands/Scott County JV Updates

Featured Replies

I think this game started at 11am, and it's being played at Scott County.

NOTE: Highlands is playing SCOTT COUNTY'S JV and not Scott's, as Scott apparently doesn't have a JV team.

Any word?

Birds win 20-19. Final

Wow... close one... way to go Birds!

I heard the jV Birds were shorthanded today as many Jr's that normally play JV were not dressed due to excessive play in last night's Scott Eagles win.

Lots going on at this game today....

Like what?

I was told tonite at a function that 4 dads or brothers stood next to Highlands JV coach the entire game. You heard me, no on the same sideline but standing right next to him. When Coach Lorenzen signaled for the ref to move them he got the ole "hands in the air" treatment. Total lack of class on the part of these guys and the refs for not taking action and moving them off the playin surface. Apparently, Lorenzen would call a play and these guys would scream out to their kids where the play was going. Also heard that Scott Cty had a very nice team and were very talented only to be labeled by these . Too bad, just when a team does some good and plays a Highlands team to a very close game that it is tainted by these types of shenaniaghans. Go Birds 20n10

you have got to be kidding me!!!!??? Scott parents/family members "parked" themselves on HHS sidelines right next to Lorenzen!!!?? How did he(Lorenzen) contain himself, and I can't imagine the referee not being disiplined or suspended for now stepping in to correct the situation!

Not a suprise to me. Have you ever watched the Scott County varsity play? Their coach is on the field much of the game out as far as the hash marks....needs to be flagged.

Your story is pretty much right on. These gentlemen walked our sideline from the very beginning of the game. They didn't plant themselves on Lorenzen the whole game; they walked the sideline and followed the plays as they went up and down the field. I'm not talking about the track behind the field. At times, they were closer to the field than the chain gang. They stood between the line of scrimmage and our boys and they talked loud the entire game. They stood right by the ref and jawed and called this entire game. At one point early on, Lorenzen walked over and stood in front of them and blocked their view. They didn't want any part of that so from that point on, they pretty much stood away from him but still right there by our boys. By the 4th q, after realizing the refs were not going to do anything, some HHS parents went down and put a buffer between these guys and the players. They backed them up and they cheered the boys on as loud as they could and shut these guys down who, up to this point, had been reading our plays and calling them in right there. Talking trash to our boys, calling their names on the field when they heard it. Begging for calls from the refs and then telling them how terrible they were. I've never seen anything like this in my life. It's a shame these guys had to ruin what otherwise was a great football game yesterday. Scott Co. is a good football team. They are big and they are tough and they were fast. They are the type of team we could add to one of those open dates on our calendar next year. Georgetown is a beautiful place to play football. Someone early on should have taken control of what otherwise was a great day for football. Defense played a great game yesterday. We had some guys out today and others stepped up and got the job done. Go Birds!

With respect to the game, Highlands rallied back from 12-0 first half deficit, cutting it to 12-6 with a touchdown shortly before the half to get the hard fought win against a good team (one of the Scott County fans told me that they have lost only one JV game this year). Donovan McCoy did his usual great job at QB of leading Highlands offense. Scott County showed a good diversified offense with the ability to both pass and run well in the first half with two long time consuming drives. The Cardinals QB was good with very deceptive ball fakes and passed with accuracy. Highlands coaches did a good job making adjustments at half time with the defense and I believe Scott Co's score in the second half was on a short field after a long kickoff run back to around the Highland's 20. Jake Meyers for Highlands sealed the win with a big interception with about 30 seconds to go in the game on Scott County's last drive.

Well, given what everyone is saying about the behavior of the Scott County "fans" and according to History the behavior of the varsity coach, it sounds like agreeing to play a varsity game with Scott County would be a terrible idea for HHS, unless it could be arranged for none of the games in the contract to be played at SCHS.

Did you say Jr. playing JV, most teams do not play Jr. on the JV team do they.
