:thumb: It is correct...at PCC. HC simply dominated this game. PCC hit one big play on a 4th and long post pattern for their only score. Huff ran for his life most of the night. PCC has some exceptional athletes that are very young, so does HC. This series should be great for the next few years.

Big win for Harlan County. Sets up a monster showdown at home with Clay County next weekend for the district championship. Tom Larkey is one fantastic football coach for anyone who didn't already know.

PCC is good, but has loaded up on cupcakes and looks a whole lot better than they really are. Not to mention they played 7 home games this year. Harlan is for real, and they have lost a bunch of players to injury. Imagine what they'd be with their starting MLB and RB :o

 

Clay vs Harlan will be a big big big game.

Maybe people will start understanding just how good this team is. I will say it again,H.C. will win the region and also give Bell all they want in the finale.

I am so proud of all our boys. We have had player after player step up and fill in with all the injuries. The "Filthy Animals" were ROCKIN' last night. They were playing beastly, hard hitting, smash mouth football and I loved every single minute of it. PCCs defense on the other hand couldn't stop our offense. Our boys ran it up the middle over and over and over last night. I was smiling when I left the field last night and I was smiling when I got up this morning. SOOOOOOOOO PROUD IS THIS MOMMY BEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bears clinch home playoff game in dominating fashion.

HAZARD — What was billed as a district clash between two evenly matched teams was anything but as the Harlan County Black Bears overpowered the Perry Central Commodores en route to a 50-7 win on Friday.

 

The Commodores were unable to match Harlan County’s physicality on offense as the Bears piled up 360 yards on the ground.

 

“Our line just dominated tonight. I told them before the game that they (Perry Central) are a passing team. They don’t get rough and physical in practice and hit the sled like we do,” said Harlan County coach Tom Larkey. “I told them that I thought they were going to go out there and kick some tail tonight, and that’s the only way we could win the game.”

 

As has been the case all season, the Bears continued to get solid performances in their ground attack as sophomore Jake Middleton didn’t disappoint in his first in the backfield. The sophomore, who replaced the injured Dylon Smith, rushed for 84 yards and one touchdown in the first half while wearing down the Perry Central defense.

 

It was Marcus McMillian who finished off the Commodores in the second half. McMillian carried the ball 11 times for 167 yards and two scores in the half.

 

“Jake went in and got things going and Marcus took over. Marcus has the speed, all he has to do is just hit up in there harder,” said Larkey.

 

They shouldn’t surprise anyone by now, but the Black Bears defense turned in another stunning performance, holding the explosive Commodore offense to only one touchdown.

 

“There was no way I thought we would hold that team to seven points. Coach Canady did a good job this week in preparing this defense. I thought our defense and coaching staff did a great job,” Larkey said.

 

After being forced to punt, defensive end Coty Miracle recovered a fumble at the Perry Central 5-yard line to give the ball back to Harlan County.

 

The Bears quickly capitalized as junior Jordy Brewer went in on a quarterback draw on the next play for the first score of the game. Josh Jenkins connected on the extra point to put Harlan County up 7-0.

 

Perry Central responded on the following possession. Kyle Huff found receiver Darryl Beatty on a slant pattern for a 31-yard touchdown strike. Devin Turner hit the extra point to tie the game at 7.

 

Harlan County (7-1) recaptured the lead after Middleton went in from 3-yards out to cap a nine-play, 55-yard drive. Middleton served as the workhorse on the drive, carrying the ball all nine times.

 

Following an offsides penalty, Middleton ran in the two-point conversion to put the Bears up 15-7.

 

An interception by Brewer on the following possession gave the ball back to Harlan County on its own 37.

 

This time it was Marcus McMillian who scored from 4 yards out to cap a 10-play drive with 5:01 remaining in the second quarter. Jenkins added the extra point to make the score 22-0.

 

A 36-yard run by John Sizemore set Perry Central (6-2) up with a first and goal from the Harlan County 1 to begin the second half, but the Commodores were unable to punch it into the end zone, giving possession back to the Bears.

 

“They just dominated us physically all over the field. We had our chances. We just have to get better,” said Perry Central coach Justin Haddix. “I don’t think our kids were ready to play and that’s my fault. We didn’t have a very good week of practice and it showed there tonight. Harlan County’s a great team. They come and ran it right down our throat and kept up with it. Coach Larkey is a great coach and they did a good job.”

 

Following defensive stands by both teams, a negative one yard punt set Harlan County up with good field position at the Commodore’ 32.

 

McMillian quickly took advantage, as he raced 27 yards to the five yard-line on the first play. McMillian scored two plays later on a 6-yard run with 10:33 remaining in the fourth quarter. Jenkins added the extra point to stretch the lead to 29-7.

 

Freshman Cole Wilson forced a fumble on the ensuing kickoff to set Harlan County up in good field position once again, and the Bears capitalized once again.

 

McMillian went in from 39 yards out on the second play for his third score of the game with 9:35 remaining. Jenkins nailed the extra point to push the lead to 36-7.

 

The Bears’ defense got into the scoring on the following possession as Brewer intercepted a pass and returned it 54 yards for a score with 8:58 left in the game. Following Jenkins’ extra point the score was 43-7.

 

Another Perry Central drive ended deep in Harlan County territory on the following possession as Huff was stuffed at the one on a fourth and goal to give the ball back the the Bears.

 

McMillian went 62 yards to the Perry Central 32 on third down, and freshman Zach Chitwood finished up the drive with a 32 yard touchdown on the following play. Jenkins added the extra point.

 

Harlan County will have an opportunity to win the school’s first outright district title when it plays host to Clay County on Friday.

 

“Everybody’s going to say that Clay County beat Perry Central 37-26 and we beat them 50-7 so it is an automatic win, but I know and the players know that that’s not the case,” Larkey said. “I feel like Clay is a much more physical football team than Perry Central.”

The boys have the will to win no matter what obstacles have been set before them. Couldn't be any prouder! Coach Larkey is doing what he set out to do when he came here. It's happening. Fun to watch things unfold here in Harlan County as each year progresses. The Black Bears are on a ROLL!!!!!!!!!!!! Love the heart of of seniors this year too. Good example for the young guys coming up.

If that happens.....Bell Co. will handle Harlan Central with ease!!

I don't understand why Marcus McMillan hasn't gotten the ball more this season. He was their best running back last season, and still is, even with a healthy Cody Taylor and Dylan Smith.

 

I think HC will beat Clay next week and capture the district title. The Black Bears are too physical for Clay County. I'd also like to see HC rest some kids against Bell County, so they can get ready for the playoffs.

Sorry to differ cawood but I do not see how you can say Mcmillan was better than Smith. Dylon was by far the best athlete/player on that team. The difference is that O Line. Right now they can put 3 or 4 different guys back there and you dont lose anything. I do think Mcmillan is a good player, just not a dylon Smith.
