January 7, 201313 yr Sidebar for a sec for you guys........ Can I open a 529 plan or something for my kids college, even though I dont have kids yet? or do I just have to go with the do it on my own for now tactic? I don't believe you can for an unborn child but I think you can for yourself then down the line change the beneficiary to the child. I don't know a ton about those plans so don't quote me on that. I'd check with a tax adviser.
January 7, 201313 yr You can open it now. Sweet, the discussion this weekend about future little plantmanky's got me thinking about this.
January 7, 201313 yr I took some Motley fool advice about a two months ago and bought ABFS (trucking company), sold it yesterday for a cool 25% gain. Love that site.

January 7, 201313 yr Which fool service are you using? Why did you sellit so quickly? I believe the Stock Advisor package but that pick was actually on one of their free articles. I'm worried about the market as whole in the next few months. It exceeded my target so I wanted to take the profits while I could.
January 7, 201313 yr Maybe someday I'll pay to subscribe to that site. I did a free trial and have done very well with their stocks, but I will soon be pulling the rest of the money I still have in the market out for a potential down payment on a house. Since August 2011 I'm up roughly 32% in the stock market. I did the free trial for the fool in February 2012.

January 7, 201313 yr Glad it worked out for you. Thanks. I'm trying to hold out until late next February so the gains will be long term rather than short term for tax purposes.
January 14, 201313 yr AAPL got down below $500 for a bit today. Picked up 20 more shares. There is a lot of concern of earnings. Apple reports on 1/23. Speculation is iPhone sales are lagging. At $500, Apple is just over 10x earnings. That is a bargain. The question is when is the best time to buy in as 1/23 nears.

January 15, 201313 yr I've never once tried to time the market. AAPL is a bargain. I had funds. I bought. I agree but it is irritating to take an immediate hit in the next couple weeks. Thinking long term, as you probably are, just buy it. I own some and am kicking myself for not selling at $700. When I bought, my plan was to sell after earnings came out in January and my price target was 700. When it hit 700 a couple months back, I decided to go ahead and hold it till earnings. If I had sold then, I would be buying it again right now for sure.

January 15, 201313 yr I think I'm going to jump on tomorrow. Didn't pull the trigger, down to 486 now. I think it's going lower still. Have you taken any profits out at any point Clyde?
