A Great Investing Decision

Does your IRA invest in a mutual fund or do you pick the stocks yourself?

This IRA has 3 funds I am in. 2 of them are High Growth stock or something like that, and 1 is one of those funds that change your ratios over time.

I will be honest, I do nothing with it, other than put money in it each quarter.

Do yourself a favor and learn at least a little about the funds.

Starting the 29th, I'll have 5% of my monthly pay matched by my employer into a retirement plan. Trying to get that account all set up now.

Not really sure what I'm doing

Great move on your part. 100% return on your contribution.

Only downside is they take an extra 7.25% I think into the Teachers Retirement System. But I can get that money refunded if I leave this job and go to a job that doesn't do teachers retirement before i qualify for retirement benefits.

I enrolled that retirement account into 89% equities and 11% fixed income, just to get finished with the initial enrollment. I think they're having website issues so I didn't get to play around with it much. I'm trying to see if I'm able to pick what it is invested in or not.

I plan on changing it to 100% equities, but like I said I think they're having website issues and I just wanted to get through the initial enrollment. I can go back and change it anytime.

Good call. I'm 48 and have ZERO in fixed income investments.

I'll have to do some research to find out if I get to pick the exact investments or not. I'm not really sure how that works. I know they have different funds and things like that. If I can pick the exact investments, I'll have to do some research. I don't want to put them in the exact ones I'm already in.

Has anyone ever dabbled in pier to pier lending? I have been reading a lot about Lending Club lately. They now offer an IRA account for retirement.

Peer-to-peer doesn't seem worth the risk to me. I've looked into it but it seems like it's too easy for default and there was no penalty to the borrower for defaulting.

ZERO chance I do this.
