It did, but it wasn't nearly enough. We need well over a trillion dollars in infrastructure investment. The stimulus package included some infrastucture but it also included a lot of tax cuts (30-40 percent of the total), aid to local governments and support payments for unemployment and Medicaid. The 50 billion proposal is only a very meager start on what we need to do. Newsweek had a very good article on the subject.

Yes, it was part of it. I'll wait to hear more about the total cost and how it will be paid for before deciding if I would support it. We really do need to upgrade our infrastructure.

It is never enough, because it doesn't work no matter how much you throw at it. And to liberals, even if they think it worked, lets spend more. If it the 1st bunch was good, more is better.

Infrastructure spending doesn't work? The interstate highway system didn't work? The Erie Canal didn't work? The locks on the Ohio didn't work? The Hoover Dam didn't work? The list could go on for days.The United States has a long and proud history of spending for infrastructure and education that gave us the most productive economy in the world. It is the latest generation of know nothings that wants to throw that away.

I beleive its called Keynesian Economics and Europe shows that in the long run. It does not work. It makes your deficit go sky high!!!

If our roads need some work, that fine, but if he thinks that it is going to get us out of the recession, well it will work as poorly as the last stimulus. Just on a smaller scale.

The recession will end when Obama finds a way to create long lasting new jobs. This public works crap does nothing long term. It's no different then the cash for clunkers or the housing tax credit. It's all temporary and once the projects are complete it's we're back to where we started.

It's not Obama's job to create long lasting jobs. That's the job of private industries, who've enjoyed tax breaks over the last what, 8 years?, yet seem to be creating those jobs in other countries, or not creating them at all.

 

In my opinion, Corporate America and it's minions in Washington are trying to now hold America hostage. They're essentially saying they won't create the new jobs as long as a) there is control in Washington by Democrats, b) Obama is President and c) the tax cuts expire.

 

I'm tired of hearing it's the government's fault. This is America. You make your own fortune. Everyone wants to talk about responsibility, well Corporate America....stop playing the blame game and show us you have what it takes to suck it up and do what's right for America.

By any measure, America's infrastructure is falling apart. Just look at the number of bridges that fail to pass inspection every year despite the lessons we should have learned when a massive chunk of interstate highway fell into the Mississippi River at St. Paul a few years ago. This is a drop in the bucket of what we need to spend to get our infrastructure up to par.

I disagree. It is the President's job to at least create an enviroment that attracts companies here to create jobs. Even with the "tax breaks" you say they have enjoyed American still has one of the highest corporate tax rates in the world. Why do you think companies are leaving the US? If you run a company and are looking to expand where would you go? I would think the US would be at the bottom of the list. We have the second highest tax rate and one of the highest pay rates for the employees. As a CEO you may be able to justify paying a hiring pay roll if you didn't have to also pay the highest tax rate. Now who is holding who hostage? It's not a company's job to create jobs. It's a company's job to make money.

They don't care who's in charge in Washington when it comes to making that decision. The problem is they are facing a lot of uncertainty so they circle the wagons.
