I think Mason is a legitimate threat. Harris is as good of an athlete as you will find. They have a quality Line and a very good QB to go with him.

Troy Chenault has really been coming on at fullback. A tough, bruising run for a TD to seal the game against Rowan (watch the end of the Wazoosports.com video), two TDs against Harrison, one of over 50 yards, and a 70+ yard run against Montgomery. Chenault and Harris are both averaging 6.8 yards per carry.

 

Mason's defense has toughened up the last couple of games but could still use some improvement.

They were ranked as the #1 team in 3A at one point, so I would say yes.

I think the fact that they had such a hard time with Danville's defense raises a red flag. Danville has a fast tough defense, but Central, Tilghman and Somerset all have faster, tougher defenses. I don't think the Royals can stop those 3 teams. I'd rate them a notch below.

And Somerset started out rated 9th, behind an Estill County team that they beat 41-9. Preseason rankings mean nothing.

I think it comes down to Central and PT, but I think Somerset is beatable by who comes out of Mason, PCC, and Belfry. Then its just who shows up and gets beat by the first two teams I mentioned.

This is just the way it is man, I hope the Jumpers prove me wrong, but I do not think they will. I would agree they are the front runner out of the east, but they do not even get close to Central and PT talent wise.

Mason struggled a little early in the season but have come on strong lately. I wouldn't count them out just yet.

I would not count out Sheldon Clark just yet. They have taken some losses and have some kids banged up, but just like last year when everone gets healthy they will be a tough out in the playoffs.
