When was the last time UK was within a touchdown of Florida entering the fourth quarter?

Yep. And Kentucky had played Louisville and three conference games before that Florida game.

They look a lot more like Florida than Akron or WKU. Never once have I said that any of the mid-level BCS teams are equal with Florida or LSU. Just that they have more speed and depth overall than the non-con dregs UK regularly plays, and getting a stiffer challenge might better prepare them for the rigors of the SEC.

 

:lol: They look more like UF than Akron does. Who cares? That's like saying that you look more like George Clooney than I do. Neither one of us probably compare in most women's minds. UC and Illinois are going to prepare UK for UF and Bama....I'm sorry but I'm having a hard time trying to stop laughing about that one.

I just can't figure out for the life of me why Non UK fans worry so much about UK...it just puzzles me.

Week #1 there were three SEC vs. BCS games. UK/UL and LSU/UNC were both on ABC. Vandy/Northwestern was on Comcast. Alabama, Tennessee, and Arkansas played inferior teams and were on PPV and internet.

What games were on ABC that week? UK/UL; Michigan/UCONN; UCLA vs. Kansas State; LSU/UNC. All four games were BCS vs. BCS games.

 

Week #2 there were three SEC vs. BCS games. All three were on ESPN national games. Florida/South Florida was on the SEC Network. Penn State vs. Alabama was on ESPN. Oregon vs. Tennessee on ESPN2.

 

Week #3 there were two SEC vs. BCS games. Both on National TV. Alabama at Duke was on ABC; Clemson at Auburn was on ESPN

 

This weekend there were only one SEC vs. BCS game. LSU/WVU was on ESPN.

 

Eight of the nine SEC vs. BCS games have been on either ESPN, ESPN2, the SEC Network, or ABC.

 

It's not a hard concept.

 

1.) Tennessee and Florida have been comparible SEC teams in the past decade. Yet UK always plays Tennessee closer than they do Florida. I'm thinking the SEC schedule better prepares them to play Tennessee than Akron and WKU prepares them to play Florida.

 

2.) There were those on here who griped when Kentucky moved their game with Louisville because they feared the lack of national exposure would hurt recruiting. National exposure includes two things. National TV games and playing national powers close.

 

3.) How many recruits did UK invite to be on the sidelines for their wins over WKU and Akron? Anyone?

 

4.) Akron played Indiana to 15 points Saturday. I'm guessing it would have been more had they scheduled Pablam State instead of Kentucky last week.

 

5.) Bowl games are set up based on conference finish. Wouldnt it make sense to prepare better for an SEC finish than to find a way to get to six wins and go to Nashville or Memphis? Both Tennessee and Uk were 7-5 last year. UT was 4-4 in the SEC. UK was 3-5. UT got the better bowl.

 

Granted, UK is not on the same plane as Florida. But I said UT was going to beat Kentucky and got crucified. This is a year when UK has legit shots at beating UT and Georgia and a decent chance against South Carolina. Win those games and UK is #2 in the SEC East and playing a national bowl in Florida on a national network such as CBS or ABC.

 

If you agree that UK has legit shots at winning two of three against UT, SC, and Ga., I ask you. What have they done to prepare themselves to get over the hump and beat them?

 

I'm guessing Akron played IU closer than they played UK because IU is terrible.

From '02 through '09...

 

Florida was 80-25. Their worst season was 2004 (7-5). Three times they've gone 13-1 ('06, '07, '09) with two national titles.

 

Tennessee was 64-38. Their worst season was '08 (5-7). They had 3 ten-win seasons, 2003 (10-3), 2004 (10-3), and 2007 (10-4).

 

During that span Florida's average victory over UK was roughly 21 points (38-17)...Tennessee's average victory over UK was roughly 11 points (29-18).

 

However, I don't think the two have been that comparable from about '06 through the present. I think Florida has risen far above the Vols. Tennessee beat Florida in '03 and '04. The Gators have won the last 5 games by an average score of 30-13.

 

So, I took away the last two years and found that Florida's average victory over UK drops to about 12 points...about the same as UT.

 

A few more interesting facts...

 

In '07 and '08, UK played Florida later in the year. In both seasons, the Gators were our fourth SEC opponent. Ironically, those two seasons represent the best (45-37) and worst (63-5) of our performances in that span.

 

Interestingly, one of our worst performances against Tennessee came in their 5-7 season when we lost 28-10.

 

Anyone can make of that what they will, but simply put, when Florida has been at a normal level and not at superpower level, we've been more competitive. Right now, with a talent level as high as anyone could want and Urban Meyer there, the Gators are just on another level. I don't think it matters when UK plays them or who they play prior to it. We need a great performance by our team and an off-night from them to have a chance.

 

I think it's also worth considering that Florida plays a style and runs an offense that can result in more explosive plays, and thus higher scores and wider margins. UT has generally been more traditional, so you're not going to see a lot of 50-60 point outbursts from them.

 

The Cats simply got beat down by a team with the talent to beat down better teams than Kentucky.
