Is the Danville/Boyle County game what it use to be?

Or is Boyle too much for the Ads?

Would someone be so kind and give us the run down over the last ten years. I am interested in how this turns out. I know Danville has some nice teams a few years ago and I would like to see how this rivalry game has been stacking up.

Over the last 15 years Boyle County has dominated the series, winning 12 of the last 15 games. Danville football is going through some hard times right now and Boyle County continues to get better each week. The Rebels only gave up 37 yards of offense and gave up 43 yards of offense last week. Is it what it use to be? I'll say that it's a huge rivalry no matter what but with Danville not at the top of their class, it's not as big of a game. Clearly a huge rivalry, though.

In a word, no. Several years ago, Danville could compete with teams in any class and be expected to have a chance to win(and usually did) against the larger schools. This simply isn't the case any more. For whatever reason, they just don't have the athletes they used to have. the Admiral meltdown in the 4th quarter of the 2006 2A final seemed to mark the beginning of the demise of the program imo.

Agreed...And very well put.

Not the game of the state that it used to be but still a great rival. Been kind of lopsided for the past 15 years as stated earlier. I would say that it was lopsided in the 80's and 90's from what I can remember.

I think if you look at the game thread for this game it has the information you are looking for. Boyle has had the upper hand the last 10 years, before that Danville had a long streak of wins over Boyle, I think 16-18 including playoffs. I think Danville has some good talent coming up, maybe it can get competitive again in the future.

It still means a lot. You should read some of my friends facebook comments to each other yesterday. And we work together.

I personally don't care as much as the locals but as a Rebel fan/parent....when we beat Danville I don't gloat and carry on like some of my Danville friends do and when we lose to Danville I am not mad at my Admiral friends for the weekend. In MY experiences the Danville fans care a lot more about this game than Rebel fans. The Rebel fans that I associate with like to beat Danville but they aren't abnoxious about it. It's the obnoxious Admiral fans that make me want to beat Danville so they will shut up but truth be told I take much more pleasure in beating LexCath.

This game will pick up in the near future as Danville will get better and the talent level evens out. Then it becomes about coaching.

It's Boyle's cycle right now but was Danville's from '80 to '96. In that streak there were a couple of games in '82, '83 and '84 where Boyle played well enough to win but Danville made a few more big plays to take the victory. After '84 Boyle was never again "in the game" until about '95. Those 2 games that year showed Boyle could compete with the Ads and when the Rebels got over the hump they took off. My guess is the same will happen for the Ads in the near future as well.

:thumb:Rivals all ways mean something to the kids and fans. I am glad that you all still have those because we don't have any of those on our schedule anymore. All of our rivals are people that we have to play in the district or in the playoffs. We don't play any local teams anymore for example Corbin and Middlesboro. So enjoy every minute of them.
