I usually don't agree with him, however I tend to watch him here and there. Surprisingly, He and Ann Coulter are really good friends. I think they even may of dated.

I could have predicted some of the responses, while a few others have honestly surprised me.

I didn't mean anyone was being dishonest, RTS. I just can't see very many conservatives liking Maher. The guys you mention can be likeable, but Maher is just a horses butt, IMO. So I figured unless you agree with what he is saying, you wouldn't like him.

Carlin and Black didn't/don't expressly go for political humor. They touch on current events, but don't go out-and-out political by saying things like "Senator XYZ is what's messed up with society." Black and Carlin are just as comfortable talking about non-political issues, whereas Maher has long ago cast his lot as a political comic, and hearing him do fart jokes or anything but jokes at the expense of the right wing just wouldn't quite work any more.

Fair point, although Black is more of a political comedian than anything else. The problem with Maher, IMO, he's just lousy at it.

I think like-ability is overrated for opinion makers. I don't care if I like them or not. I only care about their ability to a)debate and b)make me think.

The problem is if someone is so unlikeable they will never get far enough with people to get them to think. Maher falls into that catagory with me. I may agree with everthing he says but I will never know because I can't stand him therefore I can't watch long enough to decide if I agree with something he has to say.

I guess it comes down to tolerance levels. He's not "so unlikeable" to me. His views on religion do not bother me even if I disagree.

 

I like to have people challenge my beliefs just to make me re-evaluate.

I used to like Maher, but I've cooled on him in recent years. I liked his show Real Time alright, even without liking him that well. Its been a few years since I watched it though. I suppose his smugness put me off a bit over time.

He is the personification of everything that is wrong with this country and is a disgrace to our past and current armed service personnell b/c they are dying so that this man can spew forth his inflammatory anti God rhetoric every week. I do not hate him but rather I feel sorry for his ignorance of the truth.

Bill Maher is an atheist. And yes, we have the freedom to worship whatever......
