Carmelo Anthony to the Nets?

Featured Replies

ESPN is reporting that the Nets are front runners to acquire Carmel Anthony.

Anthony is willing to sign extension with Nets.

The Nets are prepared to offer Derrick Favors, Troy Murphy, Kris Humphries & at least 1 future 1st round pick.

Wow... It's going to be Tough making the all-star team on the east.

I wouldn't offer Favors just yet, until someone offered something better. Melo and Lopez would be a nasty combo though.

That trade would have looked better for the Nets if they would have done the smart thing and drafted Cousins.

I may be the only one---but would the Nets really be that much better, if at all better, than the Nuggets? Unless they have a plan to lure away Chris Paul or another big time name I see Melo still not playing for a TRUE contender.

They have Devin Harris already.

I think they would be a pretty darn good team in the East with Melo.

Melo to the Nets would be a good move IMO.

Is that team close to the Heat, Magic, Bulls, or Celtics? Me thinks no.

Am I the only one that believes that is a total one-sided trade for the Nets? You dump a rookie which you have no idea how he will project and two other expiring contracts of some bench guys for a proven top 10 player in the NBA entering his prime?

I agree that the Nets are making out good if this deal goes through. But the Nets would be getting a hell of a lot more for their superstar than the Raptors or Cavs got for theirs this past summer---which I believe is the thought process behind the trade for them. Either way I don't think either Melo or the Nuggets will ultimately be happy with this deal. To me Melo is correct in putting Chicago as his #1 destination.

Except for when superstars get traded for each other, I can't think of a potential trade that would have as much upside for a team in Denver's position.

If I were Denver I'd actually take this deal over one from Chicago that involved Noah. Favors has the potential to be a beast down low, and Noah has just about peaked and will command a pretty large amount of cap space going forward. Noah isn't a guy you can build a championship team around, Favors might be and the Nuggets will be able to add young pieces around him rather than just having a big name big guy at a high price tag. JMO.

I also think this may make the Nets better than the Bulls. I think Lopez is better than Noah, Anthony is much better than anyone the Bulls have on the wing. Sure the Bulls have them at PG and PF, but if the Nets could find a way to keep Murphy I think they'd be my pick over the Bulls in a best of 7 series.

When evaluating trades I typically side with the team that gets a proven star player over potential. The chances of a player living up to potential is a lot less than them fulfilling that potential... especially for a guy in the post. Just shows how bad the Anthony/Nuggets situation is. I am torn on Favors. He never wowed me to the point I felt he would be top shelf player in the NBA. I think a lot put he and Chris Bosh on the same level since they both went to Tech.

I don't think there is a question that the Nets deal would be the best for the Nuggets but in my mind a deal sending Melo to Chicago would work out much better for Melo. And honestly, I think Melo has the cards and could potentially force a Chicago deal wtih Noah staying in place.
