If you read the initial post, it states that other than in-state rival Louisville, UK has not scheduled ANY BCS opponent in the past five years. I'm not saying to schedule Nebraska or Penn State, but I cant see where a Kansas State or a Purdue wouldnt hurt.

 

Like I said, the majority on here seem content with a 7-5 season and annual trips to Nashville, which is how the schedule is set up. Their schedule has done nothing to prepare them for next week

As long as the fans and the University are satisfied with heading to Nashville every year as a season-end reward, the schedule is just fine.

 

If and when it is decided that the bar should be set more than a few inches off the ground, the schedule needs to improve.

Yeah, going 5-7 and not going to a bowl would be so much better.

9 wins, the Outback is a lock. 8 wins Outback is likely but not a lock, but 8 puts us in the Peach minimum.

Scribe's point is that Kentucky would do well to challenge itself with another decent BCS opponent ... some of the SEC chooses to do exactly that. No one said that the rest of the league doesn't have any cupcake games on their schedules.

 

UF usually only plays FSU and they only do that because they have to. Bama will play pretty good competition. But most of the SEC play garbage teams in non-conference, with maybe one BCS team mixed in.

How is Florida playing Florida State any different than Kentucky playing Louisville? And the Gators also played South Florida, which was ranked in the top 10 not too long ago.

I agree there are two sides to this. We play a BCS school and get on TV then it can be great for recruiting but if we lose that game then it can be bad. I stick with my statement of smaller BCS schools.

I cant see where Clemson's overtime loss at Auburn hurt their recruiting. I cant see where Louisville's road loss at ranked Oregon State hurt their recruiting.

As for USF, this is the first time they've played them and it's not like they are going to always be on their schedule. Last year outside of FSU, UF played the likes of the Citadel, Troy and some other scrub school. They play their instate rival and no one else. UK plays their instate rival and no one else. It's how it's done in the SEC.

This thread is ridiculous. UF plays no one. The rest of the SEC usually plays no one OOC, unless they have an instate rival. UK's schedule is on par with the SEC.

 

UK plays a tougher schedule than the 95% of college football teams...why? Because they're in the SEC. They have no reason to make their schedule any tougher. If playing tougher competition meant we'd beat somebody great later, then I guess we can count on knocking a few out after we play Florida.

 

Vandy is a terrible example. They score a "decent" conference win about once every five years. That's really the model I want UK to strive for.

Does the NCAA or BCS impose a limit on how many home games a team can play in a season? If not , why not schedule patsies for all your non-conference home games, pay them a few hundred k, and laugh all the way to the bank? Of course, this presupposes that your fans will continue to sell out your stadium even with the lesser competition. Another question is whether this will prepare you for a rigorous conference schedule and road games.
