September 19, 201015 yr 7-5 small bowl game (not great for recruiting any more) or 3-9 (no chance at recruiting)? I have no clue which would be better. I see both sides of the fence on this one. I don't see how replacing Akron with Indiana or Illinois (add ONE Weak BCS team, rather than schedule ZERO in a 5-year span) takes the Cats from 7-5 to 3-9. Do the Hoosiers beat them up so bad that they can't win a single conference game?

If not , why not schedule patsies for all your non-conference home games, pay them a few hundred k, and laugh all the way to the bank? Of course, this presupposes that your fans will continue to sell out your stadium even with the lesser competition. Another question is whether this will prepare you for a rigorous conference schedule and road games. That's what UK is doing now. No one has yet to explain to me how Western Kentucky and Akron gets them ready for Florida and South Carolina in the next two weeks.

Only thing I can think of is that Florida and South Carolina are lost causes; so you may as well play Western and Akron instead of Indiana and Illinois.
September 20, 201015 yr Maybe that's why the SEC gets blasted by the national media for their soft non-conference scheduling as a whole. They should get blasted, as should Texas. The other big dogs have real OOC schedules and the SEC uses the weak argument that the conference is too tough and they want more home games.
September 20, 201015 yr UK plays a tougher schedule than the 95% of college football teams...why? Because they're in the SEC. They have no reason to make their schedule any tougher. If playing tougher competition meant we'd beat somebody great later, then I guess we can count on knocking a few out after we play Florida. Vandy is a terrible example. They score a "decent" conference win about once every five years. That's really the model I want UK to strive for. I agree Cats. Ridiculous. I wish the NCAA would mandate that at least one non-conference game had to be played on the road. What Texas and UF do on a regular basis is garbage and weak IMO. Both programs make money hand over fist, they could afford to go and play Ohio State or USC.

It does when ESPN decides which SEC games to carry on the internet and which games to carry on ESPN, ESPN2, or the U. Which game makes it to TV first? UK/WKU or UK/Missouri? Or UK/Kansas State? Don't tell me UK's recruiting is helped when games are carried on local Comcast and the internet instead of on ESPN or the Saturday game of the week. Three games into the season and one game has been shown on the ESPN family to a national audience. UK's game against a BCS opponent. When the Louisville fans were griping and moaning about Kentucky moving the Louisville game to Week 2 or 3, UK fans countered with the argument that the game being moved wouldn't hurt recruiting because it was still being shown on an ESPN network. Getting on TV helps recruiting. How many nationwide saw last night's win over Akron on the regional Fox outlet? How does that help recruiting?
