There was an incident a couple of years ago at a HHS vs. Pendelton Co. post season soccer game. The PCHS student section was next to the HHS parent section and at the end of the game, which HHS won, the Pendelton students threw cupcakes at the HHS parents. I believe there were plenty of Pendelton parents around but the throwing of cupcakes continued.

 

Well, afterall, we ARE cake-eaters!! LOL!

My sophomore year we (Shelby County) played at Oldham County and got coins thrown at us, it was 1968, and I think I got a little over 1.50, good money back then. It was over such an important thing that I have no idea what it was now. That was basketball though. I do think your right that foul language is much more common place now, reflection of our society.

I was at that game. I don't think you're being entirely truthful. The students were overdoing it and the principal did take action. There seems to be a lot of bad blood between Mason and GRC on the basketball court and you're certainly stirring it up with a one sided view. It was certainly a disappointing loss for GRC considering they led most of the game.

 

The only things I yell at players is cheering a good play and encouragement. Of course, I'm the guy who, when I played, congratulated my opponents when they made good plays. (I confess I feel it usually gave me a slight advantage when my opponent thought I was a good guy.)

 

What is not truthful? Students over doing it, understatement..... they should have been removed from the gym. IMO if that had been GRC's fans doing that to the Mason Co players and coaches, they would have been removed.

Well, well, well.......CovCath fans out of control, threads started will we win a game besides Scott, threads about whether we made the right coaching choices. It's so comforting to know that we are so relevant and that so many people are concerned about us. I take a quote from Herb Brooks, "worry about your own game, that ought to be enough to keep you busy".

I was at Boone last night right by the tennis courts and I did not hear any foul language by that group of kids in the tennis courts. Maybe I left before it started. I'm glad they stopped when asked, but please don't assume that we adults heard and stood by and did nothing, because that's not the case.

I've seen worse at other schools. What you're saying is that the Mason administrators didn't do what you wanted them to. People don't do what I want them to to all the time, even my kids. The principal made them settle down during the second half.

 

I've been at basketball games where cheerleaders would gather right next to the visiting teams bench and yell during time outs so players couldn't hear their coaches. A northern KY school has, or had when my son played against them, the most obnoxious student cheering section I've ever seen. Another rural schools fans yelled "Cry baby, Cry baby,...." when a player on my son's team lay injured on the floor. (My oldest son played basketball for St. Patrick's, not Mason County.) I won't name schools because I'm not out to attack any particular school.

 

Certain schools seem to specialize in cheap shots on the football field. Is it a mystery a Mason football player has suffered a broken bone against the same team the last two season? If Mason is the worst you've seen, you're not looking very hard.

 

The Mason students' actions were unacceptable to the point I called my son on his cell phone, rather than search thru a bunch of blue shirts, to make sure he wasn't in that crowd. But, unfortunately, I've seen and heard worse. Some of the stuff I heard and saw coaches do and say in AAU basketball amazed me.

 

However, in general, I've found the high school football crowds to be better than the basketball crowds. Rowan County fans were excellent this past Friday as were Danville when Mason visited there.

Until the KHSAA (along with the Athletic Director and Staff at each High School) enforces a Conduct Standards for crowds- this will continue to happen.

I have attend games since 1960, so yes I have seen alot of basketball, but this is the first time I have seen fans attack the players and coaches while the game was going on and them get by with it.

GRC has a new AD now and I have been told that during the upcoming 10th region meeting that this is going to be brought up.
