Who is the head coach of Mercer?

Who is the head coach of Mercer?

 

 

I only know him as Coach Mason. I am unsure of his first name. He was an assistant on Jagger's staff and was the head coach at Nelson County I believe at one time as well.

I know who you are talking about. Does it seem like he is getting the job done or would Boyle roll over most teams like this? How has the fans accepted him (Mason)?

I am a Boyle fan and I think a Mercer fan would be better suited to answer that one. About all I will volunteer is that the talent is there and the natives are getting restless. Players are very very frustrated(one quit during the game last Friday night) and I think a lot of people who wanted Marty Jaggers out a couple of years ago wish they had him back. I think Mercer is better than they were last year and will continue to get better as the future goes on. They have a whole lot talent from 6-11 grades that should shine on the field as time goes on.

PP, Most at Mercer would tell you that Jaggers gets a share of the blame for the fall. Last year there were 11 seniors and 10 Juniors. Four of that 21 were first year players. There were near 28 and 30 in each class when they were freshmen, so out of the original 58 only 17 remained. These kids did not like Jaggers at all and quit playing. So part of the problem for Mason was that he inherited a program in complete disarray. The other problem, while I like him personnally, I'm not sure Mason is the right guy. As you have stated, he was the 3rd or 4th choice, because he was willing to accept the hand he was given.

I think they need to get rid of the assitant coaches.

Well the big problem in Mercer is the people, you guys think you have a gold mine when in reality you don't have anything better than any other 5a central Ky town, you guys treat your coaches like dogs, head and assistant. Your administration is about as clueless as it gets. My advice to you all is to leave your coaches alone tell your kids to listen, and be glad you guys have a team.

Might be the most logical post I've seen on here in quite a while. This could go for most programs, but apparently in Mercerburg as well.

Disregarding your "ignorant" comment about the people of Mercer, we never claimed to have a "gold mine" nor did we ever claim to be the best, we just know that we are better then what we are getting, and we dont treat all are coaches like dogs, its just hard to show respect to somebody who hasnt earned it and being two faced doesnt help, also i remember a few years back when Boyle had trouble winning games, what happend to that coach?? If you didnt have a Great coach in Larry French... you wouldnt have another state title. One thing we can agree on is yes Mercers administration is completely clueless and it looks like football is the last thing in their minds and its sad, also im glad noone asked for YOUR unwanted advice, and be glad to have a team?? haha you just be glad to have French, besides this argument, boyle does have some great athletes and im not taking anything away from them because coaches cant win championships alone, but you havent come close since 04 until French, so there isnt much to argue with there because "the talent was there" they just needed a good coach, correct?

I will agree that some of the parents don't help the situation at Mercer. Coaches are treated just fine. It would probably help if the Head Coach would engage the public better. The administration is clueless. We may not have a gold mine, but we have plenty of talent. It just needs to be coached properly. Coach French said it himself in the Advocate-Messenger Sunday. He was asked how he thought his defense did against Mercer. He replied with something about it was hard to tell against a Wing T team, nobody runs the Wing T. Maybe that is part of the problem. It didn't work last year and it doesn't seem to be working this year.

I don't think skilld-kid is a Boyle fan. You don't have to go back far at all to see what happens when the community and parents do not like the direction of the program. Funny thing is that I was reading old Boyle County posts from the Pardue era yesterday. Such tumultuous times back then. Don't lump all of us Boyle fans with skilld-kid. I definitely see things differently.

I keep telling people this may be the last time we beat Mercer for a couple of years. Just a whole lot of talent will be on the field over the next several years. Mercer definitely has one of the better middle school programs in this area.
