All we have to do is watch a re-run of the CBS Rivals game televised a couple years ago to decide which coach has class and who we would rather have coach our sons. This really revealed the inner bowles of each program for all to view.

All I can say is the guy is shooting 80% and I think Trinity has graduated a lot outstanding young men who played four years of football (and won a lot of rings) under Beatty.

This season there are a number of very distinct tiers in Class 6A:

 

Tier 1: Trinity

 

Tier 2: Ballard, Ryle, St. X., Male, Manual, Simon Kenton, Eastern

 

Tier 3: Tates Creek, Henry Clay, Boone County, Seneca, Greenwood, Nelson County

 

Tier 4: Fern Creek, Pleasure Ridge Park, Lafayette, Conner, Campbell County, Meade County, North Hardin

 

Tier 5: All the rest

 

From this it looks like that Class 6A would be extremely competitive if Trinity would just go ahead and play a D3 college schedule.

It is you that has turned this thread into something it isn't. By constantly overstating what this team has accomplished you denigrate what they have done. I believe it is done with the intent to make a St X win seem so much the greater or a St X loss seem a valiant effort against the odds.

The rivals broadcast was in 2008 I believe. It followed both teams all week and then showed highlights of the game. The only national game broadcast I remember was in 1990.

I know that in 2008 the T-X rivalry was shown on CBS's "Varsity Rivals," which highlighted a different prep rivalry every week. It is my understanding that this TV show aired things like what was going on at both schools in the week leading up to the game, and then maybe some highlights of the game itself. I did not think the actual full game was aired on national TV.

In the pregame analysis, it was depicted as the passing of St X quarterback Chad O'Shea against the running of Trinity quarterback Craig DeSensi. My how times change. Trinity was in the middle of the 50 game win streak. They went on to a third straight title and undefeated season. As I recall, St X didn't last long enough in the playoffs to play Trinity again. Does anyone remember which cable network it was on? I know it was the national game of the week. Earlier that year, ESPN had come in town to do a very nice preseason report on Trinity. As I recall the feature lasted about 15 minutes.

This Trinity's team's accomplishments thus far into the season speak for themselves. To answer Guru's question (AGAIN), this team is light years ahead of St. Xavier at this point in the season, and could be declared 6A champions today.

Thanks so much for the info! But just so I'm clear... this game in 1990 was shown on national TV... not just clips or excerpts of the game (like the T-X game was in 2008 as part of the Varsity Rivals series), but the entire football game?

It was the entire game. It is the only time I remember a complete Trinity game being on a national telecast.
