Just wondering - what makes you say it will turn into a running clock situation? Last season HHS won 21 - 0, but the game felt closer than the final score. Of course, that was last year, and this is this year.

 

I read online (Enquirer, I think) that Winton Woods was up 42 - 7 at the end of the third, and then Withrow came back and scored 28 in the fourth. One might assume that Winton Woods put in their 2's and 3's to get some game experience, but the article never mentioned that. So, other than the fact that Withrow has lost both games they have played, what else do you have to go on to predict the running clock?

Withrow had more talent on their team last year. Collinsworth was injured early in the game and did not play after the first quarter. Highlands ran the ball almost every down with very long drives, controlling the clock and offensive possessions in last season's game. This season's offense throws the ball and strikes quickly. Weinrich's defense is improving each week.

It is not Highlands fault that they are that much better than teams of similar size in Kentucky, but it is encumbent then for them to try to find some worthy opponents. Every week here on BGP you will see the same thing about Highlands opponent...build them up...then crush them...and then say how tough they played...all good sportsmanship to be sure, but also in hopes of keeping some of these teams on the schedule.

You aint lying. They'll be more kids in the band then on the sideline. HHS will name the score.

Wow, haven't read past your post but I'm sure you'll get hammered for this one. I do agree with you. Let the kids play at least 3 quarters. If they win by 100, well, so be it. It sounds harsh, but HHsBird is right on the money. These kids are getting short changed for the effort they put into the program. For many of them, it will be they're last year of organized ball.

Dude everyone else wants to see Highlands play Trinity or Louisville X in a game. This isnt anything new, but the people that have argued against you (At least myself) said that it is not nescissarily smart to schedule a ton of big games because last year Highlands was close to a mythical national championship without scheduling either of those teams. Beyond that, Highlands usually does schedule a big team every year. Highlands has tried to schedule those teams and for one reason or another it didnt work out. You don't know the facts and your arguement has no base. I am arguing that Highlands does play a tough schedule on average (yeah I believe they should have played another big team this year). But I don't think there are many bluegrassprepers that would not want to see that game, some simply just don't see how it would benefit Highlands.

 

As far as Building a team up, I havent seen anything about how the game might be close in the past 2 weeks.

I would not advocate a top team every week; however, when your district and entire state class is down, then I think 1 really tough opponent is not too much to ask. Highlands will cruise to the state title this year, and I guess if that makes everybody feel good then so be it, but I would think more respect would be given with a Trinity or X in the win column. People are already grumbling because the starters are being taken out so soon. Then folks might not go to the games because of the blowouts. I just don't see how Withrow or Beechwood helps in any way at all.

The USA Today Super 25 is compiled by one writer in McLean, Virginia, named Jim Halley. His opinion is just that, an opinion. He never witnesses these teams play. To put any merit in what he thinks is ludicrous. To base your strength of schedule on his opinion is foolish. Live in the moment and play memorable games that are fun and exciting to participate in and watch. Don't waste them on inferior opponents in hopes of pleasing Jim Halley. Spending half your Junior and Senior season standing on the sideline watching sophomores in blowouts is ridiculous. Google Jim Halley and then go to Reporter Index to read his profile and view his photo. You all will be shocked.
