Good move or bad move? With the NCAA investigating violations at several major programs this summer could this be a trend by coaches to protect their programs? How much of what goes on between NFL scouts/player agents and college players do head coaches know about? Could it significantly hurt the players if this were to become the norm across major college programs?

 

I think Saban is obviously backing up what he said at SEC media days and is certainly sending a message to the player agents. I don't believe that coaches know everything that goes on between their players and agents/scouts off the field and the NCAA has a history of punishing the programs after the guilty players are gone and out of their reach. The same goes for the coaches if they do know of violations or if they commit violations themselves. These agents stand to make millions off of the top rated prospects and a healthy chunk of change off of 2nd & 3rd round picks. Since the agents and the NFL are in the business of making money, I'm not sure how effective policing themselves will be.

I really like to hear Saban talk about football but I do agree with you on this. Larry will probably defend him here in a few, but I do think it seems like Saban is only out for #1.

You might be right about Saban, but if other schools jump on the bandwagon it could set an interesting precedence. I also saw a comment from a scout about how Saban would like high schools to do the same thing to his staff.

Well there is no denying Saban is out for himself. He jumps ship with a quickness, not saying anything is wrong with that its just the way it is. He has a big program and people may follow suit.

Probably. It will definitely end when recruiting dips because potential recruits figure that they like having NFL scouts, scout them. He banned NFL scouts, not just agents.

Where did i say anything was wrong with it? I am always looking to improve my career. I have worked for 4 different companies since graduating college...I have no issue with it and I stated such. He did leave Miami after assuring them he wouldn't. That is "jumping ship" IMO. It wasn't like I was attacking the man. We all know that Alabama and Saban are the best in the game right now, no dispute.

I love Saban as a coach but I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him. We'll see how loyal he is going forward. If he decides to go back to the pros will you still feel the same way Larry?

One would have to if it is for more money or something for the betterment of his career, right? I'm all for people getting paid - that is why I sided with Revis in the poll - I just wish for people to be honest. I have always left where I was completely welcomed back when I went somewhere that I thought was a better opportunity.

I don't fault Saban at all. But he's already proven that his word means very little when it comes to job searching.

Well, its a sore issue. man has freewill but Coach Saban is a dog for leaving the Pros. If he leaves he'll only go for the Pros I think. Maybe he might be interested in Ohio State but really there isn't much of an improvement going from Bama to anywhere else in College Football I don't think.

I'm back Larry. I wonder if he told any recruits at Michigan State and LSU he'd be there for their four years. He is a great coach, but is all about one thing and it ain't the Crimson Tide.
