Some Coach's Words of Wisdom????

Featured Replies

There are coaches in Boone County that tell kids if they don't play for a certain softball organization that they will not make the high school teams.

While I haven't experienced that directly I have seen it and heard similar claims.

I have seen it personally with players starting in 6th grade.

The thought crossed my mind this past weekend actually. A friend of mine has a daughter who is a pretty good player but got cut . My friend says there were lots of talented girls there but I wonder if a high school coach who also coaches a summer team is going to lean towards his/her own players.

Absolutely Not!!!

Mmm, then I wouldn't know whom....

What do you think?? :confused::rolleyes:

I think coaches do that and, to be honest, I might as well. If two players are close I'm taking the one that is going to be on my high school team.

Winner winner chicken dinner.

Michael Jordon got cut his freshman year...hmmm. Poor judgement on the coach, wouldn't you say?? .

He didn't make the varsity squad his freshman year but played for the other teams. Big difference.

Correct. He also didn't make it his sophomore year but played JV.

This is one of those great myths.

No...poor judgment would be believing a teenager without checking the validity of the claim in the first place. Poor judgment would be to then post that claim on a site such as this at risk of the reputation of the coach and school. It sounds like this kid heard what she wanted to hear. Giving them confidence is one thing, but also how about a dose of reality? If the girl hadn't played ball for a few years, don't you think it's possible that she would need to work really hard to catch up to those athletes who were working all year long on the same sport? Maybe that was what the coach was trying to explain and perhaps the girl really didn't want to work that hard. It sounds as if you have a personal issue with this school district and, perhaps, the best thing for all is probably just to try and move on. Focus on the present and leave the past in the past.

I have a hard time believing that if a player is really good, that they will not make the team? That might be the case for marginal players, but I highly doubt an elite player would be cut because of their summer affiliation?

Believe what you want

What woud you do if a coach asked girls to play some summer ball not a travel team, make it when they can so it would help them for next year. Then recieved no thanks.
