August 8, 201016 yr The Spider is best fighter in the world he always finds a way to win! That he does, but he really had no business winning that fight at all, he got worked. Never have we saw anyone do that to Anderson Silva.
August 8, 201016 yr Are you kidding me................ We left BW's with 4 minutes left in the 5th round thinking for sure this one was over. Told my buddies as we walked out, "Watch, Silva will do something crazy and win the fight." I never really believed it. Figures it actually happened and I didn't get to see it.

I was quite ticked to see it end that way. He controlled the whole fight, but you slip up once against someone that good and they can turn it around on you in a heartbeat.

It was worth watching the beating he took before that. Trust me. Sonnen had looked so good and in control from top position the whole fight, I even thought it was over when he got him down again in the fifth. Even as good as Silva is from the bottom, Sonnen basically dictated everything in this fight, especially on the ground. Looked so good, didn't give Anderson anything, wouldn't allow him to get up, anything. So like I said earlier, I had even told my buddy that it was over unless Silva could get up. I mean we have saw Silva finish a fight from the bottom before, but the way this one played out I never thought for a second Sonnen was going to get caught. I know one thing, we definitely saw a different Anderson Silva after the fight, very very humbled. Layed his black belt and UFC Belt on the ground and knelled in front of Sonnen. Wasn't cocky or anything, this fight really brought him back down to earth.

I'm not going to lie, Silva is one of my favorite fighters, but as the fight went on I wasn't against Sonnen winning. He actually deserved too in a way, but you can't make a mistake like that against The Spider, hes just too dangerous. But other than the triangle, we saw nothing resembling true vintage Anderson Silva. Chael really put it on him. Bad.
August 8, 201016 yr I have a hard time following the sport since it really has exploded in the last few years, but I will watch a PPV every now and again and I do know the main fighters. I have seen enough to know that anything can happen at anytime and I just kept expecting Silva to do something. When he got taken down AGAIN in the 5th, like everyone else, I figured it was over.
August 8, 201016 yr Watched the fight from start to finish. Thought Silva was much smarter than Sonnen. Winning the fight on his back proved that. He kept alot in the tank for the final rounds imo. I never saw any blood come from Silva, and thought that was interesting considering the supposed "beating" he took. The Spider is nasty and seemed calm even when in what seemed to look like trouble. Looking at the outcome, it was only "trouble" to those of us watching.

He was always calm, never panicked and it seemed as though he was almost trying to prove a point. He was defending himself but it honestly looked like he never even attempted to get up in the first 4 rounds. This fight also showed us how great of a chin Silva has, he took some very good punches square to the chin and they never phased him for a second. He didn't even put his hands back up half of the time Sonnen caught him, this fight reminded me of the rope-a-dope.

There is honestly not a position that Silva isn't scary dangerous from!
August 8, 201016 yr It was very impressive that Sonnen "controlled" the whole fight yet Silva easily inflicted the most damage. There is honestly not a position that Silva isn't scary dangerous from! Sonnen was dominating the fight regardless of "damage". Silva got one cut on Sonnen, and that is it. Sonnen landed a ton of punches to Silva's head.
August 8, 201016 yr Sonnen was dominating the fight regardless of "damage". Silva got one cut on Sonnen, and that is it. Sonnen landed a ton of punches to Silva's head. Yeah I don't understand all the that was Silva's plan talk. Did he show a good chin, yes. Was he calm, yes. But as we saw with Dan Henderson, even after getting taken down and worked for a round, Anderson Silva wants to hurt you and finish you. He never had an edge in the Sonnen fight, and he was close to losing it. Just because he cut Chael with an elbow from the bottom (almost one of the only shots he landed the whole fight) doesn't mean anything (comparing damage). Fact is we have never saw anyone do that to Anderson Silva in the UFC, and he was lucky to have won.
August 8, 201016 yr What a fight. Couldnt believe that Anderson looked that awful for that long in the fight. Did he not train any take down defense at all? He didnt do anything the whole fight from his back except a few elbows and the triangle in the end. He looked bad off his back for 4 rounds. Props to Sonnen Ive never seen anyone do that to Silva. Silva said after the fight that he hurt his ribs about a week and a half ago and doctors told him not to fight. Great night of fights for sure.
August 8, 201016 yr Great night of fights! Silva vs. Sonnen 2- we have to see it. Silva said he had a rib injury and that contributed to his performance. I don't know that he couldhave stopped Sonnen's takedowns at 100%. Chael deserves another shot and I can't wait to see it! That being said, Silva didn't do much "damage" to Sonnen and those saying that he did the most damage didn't watch the fight closely, IMO. Silva landed one elbow to Sonnen's eye and that cut him. Blood does not equate damage. How many time did Sonnen catch Silva flush on the chin throughout the fight? Silva won, but he got controlled and man-handled. He was able to land the submission because of his long limbs and Sonnen's inability to handle the submission attempt. Jon Fitch did what I thought he would do. He is a tough guy to fight anyway, but if you take a 13 month layoff due to injuries and have trouble cutting weight as Alves did on both accounts, that fight was over before it started. Fitch is going to have to get a tune up before his title shot, though, because I can't imagine Dana would give Fitch another shot before he'd give Shields the shot (should Shields beat Kampmann and Rush beat Kos). Maybe Fitch's next opponent should be Matt Hughes? That was a sick choke and Almeida is no push over. I think a Fitch-Hughes fight with the winner getting a shot at the title would make for a great fight. Hughes isn't running on empty; he still has some gas left in his hall of fame tank. I love Clay Guida. He always gives you an exciting fight. I love that he has gone to Greg Jackson's camp. I think that will help him get a title shot soon. I would like to see him get a Grey Maynard or a Ken Florian. It would make for a solid scrap! Junior Dos Santos deserves a title shot, but what he showed me last night only proves that he is not on the level of the top guys. If you can't KO Roy Nelson, then you can't KO Brock, Cain or Shane. I like what I saw from Big Country. Back to the drawing board, but that dude is tough.
