August 6, 201016 yr Tomorrow night. Even with the last performance a Silva fight always gets me excited. I can't wait and hope that he destroys Sonnen. The other interesting fight for me is Big Country vs. Dos Santos. Now that the the winner has been guaranteed a title shot I'm heavily rooting for Big Country. Honestly, think about how funny a BC vs. Lesnar fight would be (assuming Lesnar wins in October)?
August 6, 201016 yr Looks like a good card to me. I always buy if Silva fights. I would be surprised if you didn't get your wish. Lately, you never know if Silva will fight or play. But, considering the fallout from his last outing, the threat of being dropped by Dana, and the trash talk from Sonnen, if he doesn't deliver the goods Saturday, he probably doesn't need to be fighting for a living. If Sonnen fights as aggresively as he's said, then I think Silva can basically finish this fight whenver he chooses. Your guess is as good as mine on when that will be, but I think it will be early. I don't think this fight will last a full round. My predictions: Silva/Sonnen - Silva via KO Alves/Fitch - Alves via KO Hughes/Almeida - Hughes via Decision Nelson/Dos Santos - Dos Santos via KO There are also a few others I wouldn't mind seeing. Dustin Hazelett is from KY, I believe. Phil Davis and Johny Hendricks are both undefeated, so they might be worth keeping an eye on. And, Ben Saunders from TUF has looked solid. I think Brock, Carwin, Velasquez and Dos Santos give the HW division the strongest top 4 of any weight class. I'm really looking forward to Cain and Brock.
August 6, 201016 yr This is a solid card, one of the best the UFC has put together in a while. I'll take: Silva via submission Dos Santos by decision Fitch by decision Almeida via submission Guida by decision
August 6, 201016 yr My predictions: Silva/Sonnen - Silva via KO Alves/Fitch - Alves via KO Hughes/Almeida - Hughes via Decision Nelson/Dos Santos - Dos Santos via KO I'm agreeing with this set. I think that Sonnen will really try and take it to Silva.....which will bring out the best in him, and when that happens, I don't think that there's anyone in the division (maybe the whole UFC) that can beat him. Good card, can't wait. Later.
August 6, 201016 yr You never know in MMA, but the Hughes/Almeida fight is the only one that I thought much about. I'm pretty confident in the other picks, whether they end as I foresee or not.
August 6, 201016 yr I'm a fan of Hughes, have been for some time.....and I think he'll get the win by decision. I'm not completely sure he's got that killer instinct anymore. He certainly didn't have it in his last fight against Gracie, so we'll have to see how this one goes. Later.

The fact that Fitch has beaten Alves before and the lay off from the brain deal for Tiago didn't give you pause, 5 Wide?
August 6, 201016 yr The fact that Fitch has beaten Alves before and the lay off from the brain deal for Tiago didn't give you pause, 5 Wide? Didn't know Alves had problems. I'd still pick him, but would be less surprised if Fitch won now. Their previous fight happened too far back to sway my opinion. Alves is a much improved fighter from 4 years ago. He went on a dominant run at 170 after that loss (with the exception of GSP whom nobody can touch at this point), including a decision win over Kos. The fact that he can win a decision against a wrestling guy like Koscheck doesn't give me a lot of confidence in Fitch's chances. Kos is a better striker and more explosive than Fitch. Simply put, I don't think Jon Fitch poses any threat standing. If Alves can avoid takedowns, he cannot lose. He'll either punish Fitch for three rounds or knock him out. If Fitch can take him down, he might be able to grind out a boring decision. I doubt it though. We'll see. It's MMA. Opinions mean as little in this sport as any.

Great points- I was just curious about your thoughts. I respect your opinion on MMA. I agree that Alves has the advantage on the feet. He is as strong as a bull, also. I just question him coming off of the lay off. He hasn't fought since UFC 100, I believe. Of course the last guy that hadn't fought since then tapped out Shane Carwin, so the unpredictable nature of MMA makes this a very interesting match up.
August 6, 201016 yr Interesting tidbit- since 2006, Alves and Fitch have a combined 3 loses and 19 wins. Each guy has lost to Rush and Fitch beat Alves in 2006. These guys are tough as nails and it should make for a good match tomorrow!
August 6, 201016 yr I fully believe Silva is going to wreck Chael tomorrow night and he will do it in spectacular fashion. Would probably pick Alves tomorrow night if he wasnt coming off an injury that delayed the fight once and then the brain thing that delayed this fight a second time. I'll go with Fitch for those reasons, although I agree that Alves has become a much better fighter than he was the first time they met. I'll go with JDS by KO over Nelson. IMO Roy is totally outclassed and over matched in this fight but he has surprised me a few times in the past so maybe he will find a way to win but Im not counting on it.
August 6, 201016 yr If you didnt notice all of the main card fights are guys from USA vs guys from Brazil. Go USA!
August 7, 201016 yr Chale can take lots of punishment, so its going to be an interesting fight to see. I can still remember Bobalu getting him in that heel hook and Sonnen just screaming in pain and grabbing the fence but not tapping, so he will take it until he gets knocked out. If he can endure then get inside to get a takedown it may get interesting. The Spider is just as dangerous on his back though, but Sonnen has a lot better chance on the ground than he does standing. BUT, at the end of the day, if Silva can beat Henderson like he did, then I'm sure Chale Sonnen will be an even easier fight being Henderson and Sonnen do about the same things, only Dan is the much better fighter. In the other fights I have..... Fitch Dos Santos Hughes Almedia is going to be a tough matchup for Hughes but in no way can I ever root against Matt Hughes.
