The Problem With Tea Partiers

Personally, as a female, I don't see that the fight is over. WASP males have been forced to begrudgingly allow minorities their rights. The organizations are needed to to ensure that someone is wathcing and vigiant in that the rights are in fact afforded. The fact of the matter is that in determining who gets hired, gets financial aid, gets into college can STILL be subjective. There is still a need for these organizations, if for nothing more than to make it darned uncomfortable if there's a hint of bias.

And no, I don't think that everyone is considered equal these days, any more than 50, 60 or 100 years ago. Those in power still wield it mightily, but maybe more subtly than in the past.

I agree 100%

I don't think I've ever disagreed with a single post more on BGP.

And I think that speaks volumes.

Yeah, that the younger generation doesn't see skin color or different ehtnicities like your generation does. Our generation judges people by their merits and qualifications, not race.

And that's great, and to be commended. But you're not the one doing the hiring. And that's why that vigilance is still needed.

Also, as a late add: You should get out in the state more often if you think the "younger generation" is able to look past race issues. Some are able to, to be sure, but an awful lot of them still hold on to their daddy and granddaddy's anachronistic beliefs.

To think otherwise is to be very wet behind the ears.

You're talking about the state of Kentucky though. Outside of West Virginia, is there a more backwards state than ours?

You're joking, right?
You're joking, right?

Not at all. My generation is completely different from yours and the one before that.

You're kidding, right?

Alabama, Texas, Arizona, Arkansas, Mississippi, Georgia, Utah...it doesn't matter where you go. Backwards people exist everywhere.

Yes they do. They just happen to be the majority in the "great" states of Kentucky and West Virginia.

You don't get it, do you? You aren't the ones doing the hiring, the firing, the promoting, the doling out of scholarships...

You aren't the one deciding who gets paid what in the same organization. You aren't the one who's deciding whether a person's job worth is more or less because of their gender, age, race, etc.

You're either very fortunate to not have experienced bias in your young life, or very blind to what is going on around you every day.

I disagree.

I disagree. The young adult generation (21-35) is the generation that is very much the "torch-bearers" in the business world. Your generation is one step out the door. All the managers where I work, especially the ones in charge of hiring, are from my generation, not yours. My dad (53), has a boss that is my age. His boss's boss is 30. My roommates boss is 3 years older than I am. The person in charge of his department is in his early 30's.

All of these people work for VERY well known giant companies and corporations in the business world. In the business world, many people, especially those in charge of hiring, are younger, because they can connect much better with the people they're hiring.
