We're going down to the wire with the Cards this year. There's no way we run away with the division as long as they have the Machine, Wainwright and Carpenter. We need an edge right now whether that be bullpen help, another bat, or to strengthen our starting rotation. Anything to push us ahead and give us an advantage over the Cards right now is what we need and if we need to get rid of some young talent to get what I mentioned before, then yes. I would still be willing to give up some of our young talent like Alonso, who has disappointed anyways.

I would't mind trading for a bat in the outfield. Stubbs is a contact disaster and Gomes is wearing done a little bit. A quality centerfielder not named Gary Mathews Jr would be nice.

Throw in Stubbs if they don't like that trade.

Yeah, a leadoff guy that strikes out one out of every 3 ABs and sees 3 total pitches the majority of those K's is exactly what they need at the top of the lineup.

Who says he's playing first base? My guess is the Reds are set at the position for a few years.

He was drafted in June of 2006 so he really hasn't been with the Red's system that long. I'm sure in high school and college he was a stud who was never really called on to bunt or hit for average. He may never become a leadoff hitter but could easily carry 230 pounds on his frame and become a power hitter if he isn't asked to develop these skills.

Well that's four years.. at least two full seasons in the minor leage system. Two years isn't long enough to learn how to bunt? What does he need 6-10 years to master that concept?

He's not playing 1B for the Reds.

 

He's probably the most logical prospect to be traded ie value and no place to play with the big club.

I think Haren or maybe Oswalt are the only options out there for them at this point. They don't have a lot of trading chips down in the minors.

I just really don't see the Reds adding on that much payroll for Haren.

Doubtful, given their payroll situation and the state of their farm system. If the Cardinals make a move, it's for a mid-level pitcher or someone that comes very cheap because of subpar performance.
