"Sound Of Lies" by The Jayhawks

While only a few could argue that the vocal blending of Gary Louris and Mark Olson produced something other than silk, The Jayhawks' first album post-Olson laid bare the brilliance of Louris' songwriting. Melodically, the album is delicate and beautiful, edging away from the alt-country labels that defined the band early on; lyrically, on the other hand, it is quite dark as Louris flushes out his lingering emotions from Olson's departure, as well as his divorce.

Is "Sound Of Lies" better than "Hollywood Town Hall" or "Tomorrow The Green Grass?" Of course not. Those were some of the finest records in rock history, and each a bellwether for the alt-country subgenre. But it's not very far behind, and is definitely worth multiple listens. A grossly overlooked classic from the '90s.

The Low Anthem - Oh My God Charlie Darwin

I swear I thought there was a post where you wrote a little more about The Low Anthem, but I can't seem to find it. Anyways, I got around to listening to this and loved it. They really dabble in a lot of genres don't they?

Perfect chill out folky music!

Are you maybe thinking about when I mentioned Ben Knox Miller helping out on Anais Mitchell's album "Hadestown"? Anyway, yeah, they do pull a lot of influences into their music. At first, honestly, I thought it made the album sound too broken up and disjointed, but I got to like it more and more as I listened to it.
