I know you might think I am crazy, but I think Fort Knox will be up for a district title this year. They have a quality team coming back and they are preparing hard for this up and coming season.

There in no easy district though.

I agree they are definitely on the right track. I believe the district champion will be decided between them and Danville. The FK program is going in the right direction and they will have very potent rushing attack!

Harlan Co will win their region this yr and take on Highlands in the semi-finals. I also believe they will give Bell all they want in the finale.

So your ruling out Bardstown to compete for district championship again?

Ryle has never won the district, outright....that should make them somewhat of a darkhorse. This year should be the year and if everything goes well, they could potentially host the 4th round. Home field advantage may give them a game vs. Louisville powerhouses.

Wow Newport is so under the radar they return alot of starters they should get over 7 wins this year.

I am close to agreeing on this one. Will be disappointed if they do not at least make the regional finals.

Knox Central in 4A, 2 years ago had Bell beat at Bell in Play-offs Bell goes on and wins State Title. Knox again will be big and strong and have the skilled people to compete.

 

I also like Pineville in 1A. This team could make some noise, kinda like Allen Central last year. Watch the Mountian Lions

I'll give my "Dark Horse", and before I do, I want to warn all the fans of 1A football - don't laugh. This may catch some of you all off guard and you may think the old Boss has lost it, but here goes:

 

Fairview

 

Now some of you may be thinking "what". But, it seems that Fairview has got themselves some new students from Huntington West Virgina, three I think. It will take a lot for them to beat out Raceland and Lexington Christian, but if I had to pick a Dark Horse - Fairview would be it.

I believe someone said Murray could be the "darkhorse" of the west but if I am not mistaken they win their district year in and year out that would make them no darkhorse but this maybe the year they give Fort Campbell all they can handle. Trigg Co should be much improved and be the 2 in that same district. What about Owensboro Cath upsetting Fort Campbell or one of the other teams out in Region 1 or 2 bringing down Campbells powerhouse run?

Newport is a great darkhorse pick, I don't know the inner workings of this program over the years, but like few programs, they can go form bad to pretty good really quick over there, for example in the mid '90s Newport went form 0-10 to 6-5 to 11-2 and that is just one of many examples form this program. My is pick is not Newport even if it would have been wise choice, but am making a bigger jump by not just one pick, but two picks Betsy Layne and Fort Knox, two teams looking to be on the rise in two distict's that have seen better days. Betsy Layne has two one thousand yard backs returning as well as a QB that thrown for over thousand yards to add to a talented group of lineman. Fort Knox is a very fast team, with the coaching of Coach Combs the teams are getting better every year, remember speed kills. That is my picks for the darkhores teams for 2010.

I'll take Louisville Holy Cross . I am a little biased being a former player and all but they have worked for this year as being the year and have all of the tools it looks like . They are lacking a little speed I have heard but their offensive loine and offensive backfield shoiuld prove to be very big this year . Every game outsiode of district is against 2A-6A schools so that should hepl in the long run . Injuries will have to be avouided .....

And a drubbing as well? Just giving some Ryle supporters a hard time. Id pull for them over any Louisville team if it came down to it!

I'll take the only team not talked about in that 2A district, Washington County. They added a couple of quality coaches and have a great group sophomores and juniors with a few seniors sprinkled in. If their line can block they have a chance to step up and win not just the district, but maybe the region as well.
