June 1, 201016 yr Video taken by IDF naval boat shows the passengers of the Mavi Marmara, one of the ships in the ‘Free Gaza’ Flotilla, violently attacking IDF soldiers who were trying to board the ship after having sent repeated requests for the boat to change course.
June 1, 201016 yr Interesting tidbit is that this ship was one of 6 in the convoy and it is also the only one where this problem occurred.
June 1, 201016 yr Israel has every right to do whatever to keep themselves safe from terrorist. I am dissapointed the US doesnt support them more than we do. israel will not be defeated. But yet we sit by and let Iran build nukes to try to blow up Israel.
June 1, 201016 yr It has become gospel truth in some circles that whatever happens, Israel is always in the wrong. It is a disgusting and anti-intellectual premise that has simply come to be accepted by a lot of people.

June 1, 201016 yr It has become gospel truth in some circles that whatever happens, Israel is always in the wrong. It is a disgusting and anti-intellectual premise that has simply come to be accepted by a lot of people. Conversely, to some Israel is always right no matter the circumstances, often to the point of elevating the perceived interests of Israel above the United States'. Frankly, I think it's a situation not a lot of people know much about - including me - which makes it extremely easy to hold a rigid ideological position one way or another.
June 1, 201016 yr Out of curiousity, what would be the expected response. If you were on a ship taking survival goods to people in Gaza and you were boarded - in what appeared to be an attack - by the IDF? Suck it up and take whatever they dish? Or is the premise that if one were to disagree with the naval blockade of GAZA that one should simply sit pat.
June 1, 201016 yr I'm no expert in military affairs, but it seems strange to me that they would choose this method to board a boat. Israel has all sorts of gunboats patrolling the Med and the Red, equipped with submachine guns (I know, I've had one pointed at me before), so why not use those to deter the shipment?
June 1, 201016 yr Israel has every right to do whatever to keep themselves safe from terrorist. Including keeping food and medical aid from women and children.

Or is the premise that if one were to disagree with the naval blockade of GAZA that one should simply sit pat. They sent repeated requests for the boat to change course. The IDF said their violent attack was clearly premeditated. They had knives, metal rods, firebombs and other items ready to use. Some of the troops were armed with paintball rifles in order to avoid a lethal encounter. What should they have done, let the ships run the blockade not knowing for sure who or what was on board?
June 1, 201016 yr Author Including keeping food and medical aid from women and children. The “peace activists” aboard were filmed shrieking Islamic battle cries before their run-in with the IDF. "[Remember] Khaibar, Khaibar, oh Jews! The army of Muhammad will return!" Khaibar is the name of the last Jewish village defeated by Muhammad's army in 628. Many Jews were killed in that battle, which marked the end of Jewish presence in Arabia.
June 1, 201016 yr ^Israel has inspected the cargo and found medicine, cement, hospital beds, dry food products, wheel chairs, building supplies and children's toys on the boats. They've allowed it to pass and it's reaching Gaza now.
June 1, 201016 yr But let's look at this situation evenly- The protestors were in violation of maritime law by breaking the blockade. Israel could have sank the ship and been well inside their rights to do so. But as I said earlier, it was a supremely dumb move to board a ship using the fast rope technique. It's basically like throwing a solider to a pack of wolves. Of course it was going to get violent, of course it was. You can't protestors and IDF in that compact of a space without stirring up trouble. They could have used tear gas or other means to clear the boat, but they didn't. Seems truly bizarre to me.

It was also said that they had knives, metal rods, firebombs and other items.

I agree it was a weird way to board the ship, still doesn't make the Israelis wrong in this.
