I will go ahead and start the controversy on the pitching. Does it matter if you win Friday and lose Saturday? In my opinion, No. You look at the match ups and throw who gives you the best chance to win it all, IMO. Conner is hitting the ball very good. A lot of people said Myerhoff was making a mistake last year in round 1 against Highlands when he started Bertke. BW won that and started Smith against Conner. When BW went down 4 or 5 runs he was removed for another sophmore. BW came back and won it all. The number one did not really factor for them.

 

I would throw Smallwood against Conner and potentially Sexton against the Boone- CCH winner. I view that as the best shot for Dixie. The problem is the pitch count for Smallwood. He seems to run it up there pretty good. How many did he throw yesterday in four against Newport? I know he threw around 85 in the first meeting with BW. He went 5 innings in that one.

 

If I am Conner, I throw a breaking ball type pitcher. Someone that can locate the fastball and throw the breaking stuff for strikes.

 

These are my opinions and I could be way off. But, I could be right! It easy to sit back here and not be faced with having to make the call.

Who pitched for Holy Cross? We are getting into a Dixie/Conner prediction discussion when I would like to hear what happened to the very good Holy Cross pitching staff in this one.

Max even said today he isn't telling them who is throwing until Friday most likely for a few reasons. 1) He knows its a tough decision with so many good pitchers and the tournament setup. 2) He doesn't want it leaked out to the rest of Northern Kentucky.

I thought he missed it. It looked like the umpires were unclear on who was going to make the call. The third base ump had went out for the fly to left center. That left the call up to the home plate ump working his way down the line.

I think they were making sure that the right guy was going to take the appeal.

I believe if Dixie throws sexton they will lose. I was not too impressed with him in the district finals against St. Henry although that is the only time I have seen him this year and maybe he just had a bad outing. I see Conner's hot bats hitting him pretty hard and putting up alot of early runs.

Like I said, it was the only time I saw him this year and it may have been a bad outting. He just did not seem to throw very hard and St. Henry hit him pretty good. A few of the players told me he wasn't as good as everyone always said he was. Maybe it was just a bad game for him, like I said before.

I would concur with you Solomon about Sexton. I have seen him and I think he is very solid. Throws the ball hard and has a different look than other pitchers when he delivers the ball. JMO.
