Vanderhoof resigns at Raceland

Featured Replies

I heard moments ago from someone in the school system that Randy Vanderhoof has stepped down as Raceland head coach. My source is good, but I know the guys on here are closer to the program. Can you guys confirm or deny this?

One of the good guys. Wonder if this is effective immediately or if this is something that will occur after the coming season?

Does this mean the Coach Maynard era is about to begin?

A man that graduated from Raceland, played at Raceland, got his coaching start as an assistant at Racealnd, and had all of his head coaching experience at Raceland. A Raceland man to say the least. He constantly gave more back to Raceland then Raceland could ever have given him. I will miss him being the man, but he deserves the opportunity to step down and enjoy life.

Randy Vanderhoof will forever be one of the main pieces of the Raceland Puzzle.

Continue. Continuity is the main thing here, these coaches coached together and had the same focus, the engine may change, but it's the same machinery.

I realize there will be continuity. I just was throwing it out there to see if everyone felt as I do that TJ will be the next head coach at Raceland.

Will he still coach baseball?

I'm pretty sure that was decided quite a while ago.

If true I wish him the best of luck. He was Raceland's baseball coach back when I played ball in the early 90's. He's done an outstanding job at Raceland and ran a great program not only on the field but off the field too. I hope TJ gets his shot there if he wants it. Raceland has had one of the better staffs in this part of the state for some time IMO.

So he basically resigned this late so his buddy would be promoted? What is Coach Maynard's background?

Man I hate to hear this. Coach Vanderhoof was a class act. I have always held him in a high regard due to how he treated my team, West Carter, when we scrimmaged them each season to start off the year. I'm happy for him that he is getting to do what he wants to do though, too often it seems that good coaches are forced out when they shouldn't be. I would expect that Raceland will continue their excellence on the field, Coach Vanderhoof has continued to build on their tradition. Best of luck to Coach Vanderhoof and Raceland football in general. :thumb:

Obviously speaking when you don't know the situation. Coach Vanderhoof has had the option to do as he wishes for a long time. He has earned that right: played here, graduated here, worked his way up the ranks here, and had dedicated himself for the betterment of the program. As for Coach Maynard, he would have the first option on refusal no matter if the job came open the first day after the season was over, or if it came open the day before the season started. He also has earned that right: played his college ball at UK, head coach and winingest coach in Greenup County history, came to Raceland as the DC and has been given a great deal of responsibility by the administration and coaching staff. He has been an assistant coach for several simi-pro teams. He has taken a lot of the work off of Coach Vanderhoof since he arrived, or Coach Vanderhoof may have stepped down several years ago. Basically, Raceland has had two head coaches since Coach Maynard arrived.

Randy Vanderhoof will all ways be one of the best Head coachs in this area period.

Randy Vanderhoof personifies what a true man should aspire to be. He is a Christian influence on his teams and is a true Ram. Coach Hoof is well respected in the community, school, church and in these boy's hearts. I believe that Coach is also a strong influence at home and loved there more than anywhere else. Coach has a passion that I truly had never seen before from the sidelines. My favorite memory was in the first game that I was apart of with the Raceland program. We were at Ashland for the opening of the 2006 season and somewhere in the early 3rd quarter a "questionable" call had been made followed by the ejection of one of our players. Coach Hoof went bonkers, pacing the sidelines and crying out in disbelief. This went on for several plays and left me wondering what was happening. Then, he stops and with his patented stern, mad face addressed the back judge and screamed with his right index finger pointed directly at him so there was no confusion as to whom coaches displeasure was directed, "That's ok, keep it up! We are going to win this game and come back here and win three in a row!" I just remember thinking, is this guy THAT intense or crazy?! I soon realized that he was as pure a man, and marched to his own beat and loved everyone. He was as fair a coach as I have ever met. Good luck to Coach Hoof and whatever life has in store for him and his family. I know one thing, God will be first and foremost in whatever coach does or where he goes.
