Man this is a shocker, I know I am not close to the program, but I always figured that when Raceland Ram got that break through season and make it to the state finals that Randy Vanderhoof would be head man. I played and coached the game so when you see a physical hard hitting team like the Rams you can't help become a fan of the football program. My thinking was Raceland with some great coaching had two teams in the last few years that had all the parts to win it all, so with that you know that Raceland as a program has a great shot at some point winning it all. To me, it is a bit of a shocker, but I don't know the mans personel life or reasons he may have, so you guys like Ram who are closer to the program problemly knows more then I at this point. I will say this Randy Vanderhoof has done a great job at Raceland, in my mind one of great coaches in the area.

Coach Hoof is a great Christian man and a great coach. Raceland is in good stable hands but it will be sad not seeing Hoof pacing the sidelines.

Thanks for all the kind words about Coach Hoof and Raceland, if you know him, you know that he would deflect the compliments to the school and the staff. But, we all know that he had a lot to do with it.

No, he has been at Racland since he graduated college. Actually, he as been at Raceland since he was 5, he attended Raceland and graduated from Raceland then came back to coach after college.

ASHLAND — There may not be anybody who fit the profile of being the Raceland High School football coach better than Randy Vanderhoof.

 

He was so passionate about the program that every loss practically made him sick to his stomach.

 

Nobody bled orange quite like Vanderhoof, who resigned this week after 13 seasons.

 

“He was my handpicked choice,” said Bill Tom Ross, who preceeded Vanderhoof as the Rams’ head coach. “They were going to do a nationwide search but I told them we don’t need to have a nationwide search, we’ve got the guy we need right here.”

Getting ready to go to the school to do sports physicals. It will be odd not to go to Hoof's class room to discuss how the boys are looking...... I may go anyway!

Randy Vanderhoof personifies what a true man should aspire to be. He is a Christian influence on his teams and is a true Ram. Coach Hoof is well respected in the community, school, church and in these boy's hearts. I believe that Coach is also a strong influence at home and loved there more than anywhere else. Coach has a passion that I truly had never seen before from the sidelines. My favorite memory was in the first game that I was apart of with the Raceland program. We were at Ashland for the opening of the 2006 season and somewhere in the early 3rd quarter a "questionable" call had been made followed by the ejection of one of our players. Coach Hoof went bonkers, pacing the sidelines and crying out in disbelief. This went on for several plays and left me wondering what was happening. Then, he stops and with his patented stern, mad face addressed the back judge and screamed with his right index finger pointed directly at him so there was no confusion as to whom coaches displeasure was directed, "That's ok, keep it up! We are going to win this game and come back here and win three in a row!" I just remember thinking, is this guy THAT intense or crazy?! I soon realized that he was as pure a man, and marched to his own beat and loved everyone. He was as fair a coach as I have ever met. Good luck to Coach Hoof and whatever life has in store for him and his family. I know one thing, God will be first and foremost in whatever coach does or where he goes.

 

This s a very true story. We had a player right there.

Sometimes the word class is hard to define in a sentence or two, but you always know it when you see it. I've got to see it for the past six years because Hoof is the walking definition of class.

 

As good as he is as a coach, he's an even better person.

Cathy and I went for a walk yesterday and as we approached the High School, we made a right and walked behind the school and across the practice field and beside the baseball field and onto the track. I told Cathy it was weird but it was the first time since Hoof's announcement that we were walking on Coach Maynard's field. I am excited to see what happens this year.
