Many showed up to tonight's titanic struggle, as Mieken was packed. A great overall game that showcased two outstanding pitchers battle. It was the arm of Adam Warning though that out dueled Nick Ritter, along with the bat of Stayten and great overall defense by the boys in blue. HC needs to keep their heads up though, they played a heck of a game and a break here or there and they win.

 

Snow Castle Offensive play of the game: Brett Stayton comes up with 1 out and men on first and second. Gets a fastball from Ritter and crushes a double to plate the 1st and only run of the game. Huge hit by the senior.

 

Loftus Plastic Surgery Center Defensive play of the game: HC batting in the bottom of the 5th with a man on second, Adam "12-6" Warning dealing to Justin Kohake. Kohake rips one up the middle, but Warning sticks his hand out there and knocks the ball down, and makes the play at 1st, inning over. If Warning doesn't make that play, tie ball game, great play Warning.

 

Bone Fish Grill bone head play of the game: As TOG eluded to earlier it has to be the base running of HC. In the Bottom of the 2nd, men on first and third, one out. HC attempts to steal 2nd only to be canned at the mercy of CCH catcher Matt Klein, leaving a man on third, two out. Jasper, the young man hitting, proceeds to hit a fly ball to center which would have scored the runner on 3rd easily. In the Bottom of the 6th, Blake Tiberi rips a double to deep right-center, Broering on 1st is waved all the way home to be canned, at the mercy of a great rely from Logan Seimer, by 20 feet. Instead on 2nd and 3rd one out, man on 2nd two out. Two huge plays that really impacted this game.

 

Overall though it was the Colonels that won this game. They deserved to win, great game. :thumb:

I'll give you something to ponder about the 1st inning. I too would have given an error on Warnings at bat. Let's reconstruct, as you are supposed to, to evaluate earned uns and unearned runs. If Warning is out and Klein walks, then Stayton is up with 2 outs. In stead of Nienaber (their best PR) running for Warning, he is running for Klein. In stead of 1 out there are 2 outs. Ergo Nienaber is off and running at the crack of the bat....and imo he scores an earned run.

As most of the CovCath Parents, Players and Coaches knew, I was at Murray State University seeing my future son-in-law get his Degree.

I agree, but I think you can expand that to the 9th Region. I think the following are all capable of winning the 9th. To clarify, I feel you need at least 2 good or great starting pitchers. At least a third solid relief pitcher who can get you a couple innings. You have to have an offense that is diverse enough to score from any part of their line up on a given day.

You have to have an above average defense, one you can rely on to make the plays consistently.

 

Ok now my qualifiers to the above in county only order: Boone, Ryle, Conner

Dixie, CovCath, Holy Cross and NewCath.

I agree. However, there are no "great" pitchers in the 9th this year. "Very good" to "pretty good."

 

The 9th first round is May 31st. Next round isn't until June 4th. Even if the winning pitcher goes 7 on May 31st he can start and pitch again on the 4th.

Speaking of questioning coaches there was a CCH runner on 3rd base in about the 3rd or 4th inning with less than two outs. A CCH batter hit a smoker to Broering at 2B who was playing back. He stopped it and threw the runner out at 1B but the runner on third did not score. I was curious if that was a coach's call or did the runner simply not go of his own volition.

 

Could have been a huge run.
