Atheist Claims there is a Liberal Media Attack on Christianity

The big question for me is what liberal media? Over the past 10-15 years, the liberal media has been overrun by the conservatives. Try to find one radio talk show that isn't hosted by a right winger. Half the newspapers or more are right leaning more than left. We all know what cable looks like with Fox and its popularity. Where is this God forsaken liberal media?

Have you ever read the Courier-Journal or the Lexington Herrald Leader?

Fox does not smoke CBS, NBC or ABC.

Name the national newspapers that are liberal, outside of the Times.

USA Today

Spin however you like.

Spin? There's nothing in the graph about ABC, CBS or NBC.

That is obvouisly a slam against FOX and conservatives. Keep in mind that the National Enquirer has in recent times has broken some rather large stories that other "news" organizations have sat on.

Or is the point that ratings/sales are not a valid measuring stick for journalism?

While it is true that most metro dailies trend liberal, for every one of them there are thousands of small-town papers that are often more a reflection of their local population in terms of editorial bent.

Or is the point that ratings/sales are not a valid measuring stick for journalism?
Ask that question to the many newsrooms/newspapers across the country that have had to scale back due to low circulation/sales.

Have they gone out of circulation/scaled back because of the quality of their work?

Instead of continuing to ask "thought provoking" questions, let me spell it out. Fox gets ratings for much of the same reason that the National Enquirer does - sensationalistic topics/stories. Obviously Fox is more responsible and not as outrageous as The NE, but they aren't that far apart today either. These ratings have little to do with traditional journalism and reporting. It is more about shock.

Spin? There's nothing in the graph about ABC, CBS or NBC.

True dat. I believe the graph was related to cable only. Hence the omission of the big three.:thumb:

When I start getting my news exclusively from Fox and the National Enquirer, please shoot me. I'll officially be brain dead at that point, and I'm record as saying I don't want to live out my golden years as a vegetable.

Spin? There's nothing in the graph about ABC, CBS or NBC.

What kind of ratings are we talking about? Fox News vs. The Office?

There aren't that many people who watch the big three networks for news anymore. So, I'm interested in hearing how a comparison could be made between a cable news channel (Fox) that shows almost exclusively news shows and a major network (NBC) that focuses primarily on entertainment.

The only applicable comparisons for Fox News are MSNBC, HNN, and CNN.

Likewise, the networks can only be compared to each other.

Um, the big three are CBS, NBC and ABC. None of which are on your graph. No smoke.

So you want to compare ratings of a 24 hour network news station to a 30-minute news show?

“World News” Increases Leads Over CBS

Week-to-Week and Year-to-Year

For the week of April 19, “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” averaged 7.08 million Total Viewers and a 1.5/7 among Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research. “World News” grew its Total Viewing audience 2% week-to-week.

Compared to the previous week, “World News” closed the Total Viewing gap (560,000) with “NBC Nightly News” by 20% and the demo gap (280,000) by 24%. This marks the smallest weekly gaps between ABC and NBC since October 2009. In addition, year-to-year “World News” cut into “Nightly’s” lead among Total Viewers by 15% and Adults 25-54 by 10%.

This marks the largest weekly demo lead over CBS since February.

Last week, “World News” continued to cover the Iceland volcano and its impact on both sides of the Atlantic. “World News” also followed Republicans and Democrats as they worked towards an agreement on financial reform. Jon Karl provided an exclusive report on SEC employees spending hours on porn sites while at work, and Brian Ross reported on Naomi Campbell’s refusal to cooperate in the ‘crimes against humanity’ trial against African dictator Charles Taylor.

Jon Banner is the executive producer of “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer.”
