What kind of ratings are we talking about? Fox News vs. The Office?

 

There aren't that many people who watch the big three networks for news anymore. So, I'm interested in hearing how a comparison could be made between a cable news channel (Fox) that shows almost exclusively news shows and a major network (NBC) that focuses primarily on entertainment.

 

The only applicable comparisons for Fox News are MSNBC, HNN, and CNN.

 

Likewise, the networks can only be compared to each other.

I think the point that was being made is that Fox smokes the other cable news network stations.

 

The three 30-minute evening newscasts still draw more viewers.

 

I think both sides points are valid with more clarification of what they were trying to say.

Talk radio I'll give you, the left does horrible at that. But there are plenty of newspapers that are left leaning. Then you have CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN MSNBC....

 

Granted, FOX smokes them all. Why do you think that might be?

There is a definate attack on Christianity in this country. While it does not happen as much in the smaller newspapers as Jim said, (they actually need to sell papers as opposed to the big papers that drive income from ads), it is prevelant in the Lex HL and Lou CJ. Even the local paper in Somerset will post just about every letter to the editor that attacks local churchs or christians.

Instead of continuing to ask "thought provoking" questions, let me spell it out. Fox gets ratings for much of the same reason that the National Enquirer does - sensationalistic topics/stories. Obviously Fox is more responsible and not as outrageous as The NE, but they aren't that far apart today either. These ratings have little to do with traditional journalism and reporting. It is more about shock.

My point was that sales/circulation do matter in the real world. Quality is subjective to opinion.

To respond to your topic, yes there is media hostility/disdain towards Christians in my opinion.

Just to be clear, the smaller newspapers' revenue is primarily ad-driven as well. The ad rates simply change based on the number of customers the paper is reaching, through subscription and single-copy sales.

I agree, it's just that if a small paper ticks off a section of their community it hurts them more than a larger paper. Due to the numbers alone a smaller paper can't afford to tick off Christians, Bingo players, Football fans or any other group. Small papers IMO walk a tighter line than the larger papers is all I was saying.
