Damarko Foster Signs

BOYS' HOOPS: Newport senior basketball player Damarkco Foster on Tuesday signed with Southeastern Illinois, according to Newport coach Aric Russell.

Foster, an Enquirer first team all-star, transferred to Newport before the 2009-10 season. He led the underdog Wildcats to a Ninth Region title, scoring 26 points in a championship game upset of Holmes.

For the season, the 6-3 guard averaged 14 points, six rebounds and three assists per game.

Foster is the second high-profile Northern Kentucky senior to sign with a junior college this year. Enquirer player of the year Elijah Pittman, of Holmes, signed with Chipola Junior College. Austin Hill, a former Holmes standout, played two seasons at Southeastern Illinois. He's now a junior at Division I program Illinois State.

Congrats to Demarko and hopefully he will follow the same route that Austin Hill took and end up playing D-1 in a couple years.

for everyone's information Coach David Henley of Holmes played his college ball at Southeastern Illinois before moving over to Southern Illinois to play baseball.

I wonder if David had any influence on Demarko, I am sure he was quite impressed with his performance in the finals.

Congrat to Marko nice young man, and to my understanding Southeastern Illinois was at that 9th region championship game to recruit Pittman but after his performance they switched to wanting Marko instead.
