April 15, 201016 yr Great Pics. Those brought back some GREAT memories for me. I was there in 2000. I love the pic behind the 16th green, that is where I spent much of my time there.
April 15, 201016 yr The only bentgrass on the golf course is on the greens. The fairways are bermuda, with a rye grass overseed. Yup! I can not remember exactly when they made the switch to bent on the greens. Was it after the flood in the early 90s, that ruined Amen Corner's greens? I bet they have fits in the summer with as much humidity as they have there. I wonder what variety they use. I would guess it is 007 or one of the new Penncross varieties. Can not imagine the effort it must take to get those greens through the summer.
April 15, 201016 yr I went on Wednesday/Thursday a few years ago and I must say it was like walking into church. Everything was perfect and everyone respectful. I was surprised at how miserable a city Augusta, GA was and how few nice places to stay there were. We ended up renting a house.

One of my buddies has an aunt and uncle who live in Greenwood, SC and we stayed with them. It was about an hour from Augusta, but at the cost of $0, the drive wasn't too bad!

Other than the golf course not much there.
April 15, 201016 yr I thought I'd share some pictures from my trip to the Masters. We (our old buddy diggerphelps and a couple other friends) were there for Monday's practice round. It is an amazing place and if you like golf, even just a little, you have to go. I am so jealous. This too is on my bucket list. Hope I don't kick the bucket too soon, my time is running out.
April 16, 201016 yr Author Were you not surprised when you first got to Augusta, I remember saying are we in the right place. Other than the golf course not much there. All I saw was Washington Rd, so all I saw were restaurants and strip malls. I've heard some stories about downtown Augusta though. One of those places where you don't go out alone at night, correct?
April 16, 201016 yr That's awesome man. I'm hoping to go with my dad and son when he gets a little older. Glad you all had a great time and are back safe.
