From what I've seen I think Krumps is starting the overall best players. You could quibble over a spot or two but overall....

Coach Krumps is a legend in NKy HS baseball circles and with 23 straight years of 20 plus wins per season and one state championship to his credit in Krumps I trust, and you have done what in baseball?

I think its always a fair question to ask when a coach doesn't play a lot of players. Two schools of thought with one being get the main 9 or 10 ready for the tourney and the other being play a lot of players early to determine which players you can count on down the road.

 

There is no coach in any sport that can't be questioned. Heck, Coach K was questioned in regards to the last play of the national championship that his team won. If Coach K can be questioned Coach Krumps is fair game.

 

I also don't buy into the "what have you done in baseball" thinking. We all have opinions. I know how to watch a baseball game and I hit less than my high school weight for my career.

Sorry I once again struck a nerve TOG - but I do think it is a fair question to ask. I am certainly not claiming to know best, but I do think I have asked fair questions. I am sorry that I do not hold all the Cov Cath Coach's in the highest esteem as you do. I am not as close to the baseball program as basketaball, and that is why I have asked the questions. I have not been to one game or practice and admit that (not sure how you know I was not at any though) - but - most of this season all I read was that the guys who are playing had no real experience prior to this year. Didn't you say that yourself? I have played, coached and watched enough baseball that there are many guys who perform so much better in games than practice, so asking a question about the best players again seems like a fair question to ask. Why not get guys experience early in the year, esp in games that mean little. Seems like if we follow the same pattern year after year we get the same results.

If I am not mistaken, since that special team in 2002, they have one region championship, correct? Weren't there many people expecting much more from the teams from the last couple of years? I've missed you two butting heads since basketball season ended. kinglouie, ever the contrarian, asking the hard (and insightful) questions. TOG fiercly loyal to the program. A true zealot. king louie, you are definitely entitled to ask questions and you bring up good points but may I attempt to bring up one answer. The kids who are playing right now don't have a ton of experience other than Siemer, Martin and Klein from a few years ago before he became sick. They need the experience NOW. None of these kids were going to play in front of Maile, Darner, etc... last year and now is there time to try to win a region. Who's to say they can't win it? I realize they aren't exactly the favorite but who would have guessed Beechwood would win it last year? They certainly weren't a top favorite going into the region last year.

I'll go ahead and say it and I'll take the beating for saying it.

I wouldn't feel your questions were unfair, if you had at least attended a game!

 

You can have your opinion and that's no problem, but without even attending one single game this year, how can you say he is wrong? By not attending practices or games you can't evaluate the talent on the diamond so whats makes you think the Seniors are not better? This group of Seniors as Sophomores, were the runner-up in the JV tourney so give them a chance.

 

If you hold a coach to how many Regional Championships he has won as a bench mark of how good a coach he is, then there are very, very few good coaches in all of Ky that are any good, no matter what sport they coach in!

 

2002 39-3 Won state championship

2003 25-11 Lost to BC first round of the region BC won the Region

2004 27-6 Lost in District to Ludlow (biggest upset in Ninth Region history)

2005 31-8 Won Region lost in semi state to LCA who won the state tourney that year

2006 21-13 Lost in first round of the region

2007 27-10 Lost in Ninth Region Finals

2008 27-9 Lost in Ninth Region Finals

2009 33-4 Lost in Ninth Region Finals

 

So since 2002 they have either won the region or lost to the regional champion in 6 of the last 8 years.

 

You know KL I am agreeing with you now, as after looking at the above, lets fire Krumps and Eck, because they have only won 230 games, one state title and 2 regional championships in 8 years. Darn those two for making the errors and not getting the hits in those championship games. Fire them all!

There are currently two sophomores starting every game. Stien at SS and Severson in RF, Reese is starting in LF when Warning is pitching or playing first base and Lenkheit is getting some playing time behind the plate. BTW did you know that some of the sophomores were not allowed, (due to breaking a school rule) to play in the first three games of the season?

 

Last night District Seeding Game, saw Stein at SS, Severson in RF, Reese in LF (all starting) and Lankeiht Catching in the last three innings when Matt Klein came in to pitch in the 5th!
